With all the obsessive discussions about what Murray has done or failed to do today, we British tennis fans seem to have overlooked Heather Watson winning her maiden WTA title at the HP Japan Women’s Open Tennis tournament in Osaka!
She had to save 4 match points to do it but she got there in the end. So congratulations and well done Heather! The first British woman tennis player to win a WTA singles title since 1988!
She and Laura Robson (who made her first WTA final last month) are clearly creating some kind of future for British women's tennis after so many years of absolutely nothing. Let's hope they can both progress onwards and upwards to bigger and better things.
