thanks for posting. I admit, I'm not great at tracking this stat. Usually I only notice a long streak when it begins a set(then I go back & see if they ended the previous set with a streak)

If they have a long streak in the middle of a long set, I'm less likely to see it or bother counting.

I would imagine Martina had a long streak at some point, do you know what her highest 1st serve pts won % was in matches we did?

That Chang one is pretty surprising, I don't recall that match as being close at any point.

I wonder if Stich had a long streak vs Sampras at '93 Masters, think he served 7 straight aces at one point.

Federer vs Lopez at '07 USO is another possible long streak, since he won 35 straight points on serve.

We only have that stat for one of her matches -- 79% in the 1987 W semi vs Evert.

She had streaks of 12 and 15 in that match.

That streak occurred during the third set which went to 7-6. He won his last 19 points on 1st serve, starting with the last point of the second set.

Chang's success on 1st serve for the match was actually a little higher than Sampras' (86% vs 85%).

Perhaps indicative of how well Chang returned.

Goran had streaks of 17 & 15 vs Sampras at '95 Wimbledon.

We only have that stat for one of her matches -- 79% in the 1987 W semi vs Evert.

I took that stat in several of her matches. '85 USO F, '86 W F, '81 AO F, '82 AO F, '81 USO F, '84 AO SF

had 80% 1st serve pts won in the '84 USO final.

Actually does anyone have record of most consecutive times in holding serve? I believe Sampras did it more than 100 times in a row at Wimbledon.

^Sampras' longest streak was 97 games at '97 Wimbledon.

Wayne Arthurs had a streak of 111 at '99 Wimbledon(but it included qualifying matches)

Thanks Moose. Do you or anyone else know of any records for consecutive hold over a period of time?

Where's Greatest Of All-Time fill-in-the-blank (aka Fed) on this list?

Where's Greatest Of All-Time fill-in-the-blank (aka Fed) on this list?
I haven't noted any streaks for Fed, maybe others can provide some.

Moose and I have plenty of streaks from older matches because we did all the stats for those matches ourselves. We've rarely done service stats for matches in the Federer era, because nowadays most service stats are available online (though streaks of points on 1st serve are not usually provided).

Obviously when Bill Scanlon won his Golden set he had to have won at least 12 consecutive points on serve.

Good stuff, guys, keep it coming.

Looks like the streaks by Borg and Raonic are the longest unbroken streaks on the list (by 'unbroken' I mean the streak was still alive when the match ended).

Djokovic was 17 of 17 on 1st serve pts won in the 2nd set vs Del Potro, 2012 USO. Not sure how long the streak lasted.
Amazing, Djokovic put in 17 first serves, while Del Potro had 38. Mostly due to that long game Delpo served at 5-6.

Didn't Delpo win the first 10 points of the set? I thought that's what the commentators said. He had Novak down love-2, love-30 on serve. So Djokovic lost his first 6 service points of the set.

But those 6 points must have all gone to 2nd serve, if he ended up 17 for 17 on first serve.

Are you saying Sampras essentially went 9 service games and didn't miss a first serve and didn't lose a point, or that of the first serves he got in the court, he won 36 straight points?

In 2013 Sydney final Kevin Anderson won 31 consecutive points on first serve against Bernard Tomic
Not sure about this, the ATP has Anderson winning only 48 of 60 points on first serve (80%) for the whole match.

Here it says that Anderson won 29 of 31 service points of every kind in the second set.

http://www.foxnews.com/sports/2013/01/12/tomic-tops-anderson-in-sydney-for-first-title/

Tomic dominated the first set, winning 20 of the 27 points on his serve and earning the lone break. Anderson had the only break chance in the second set, but failed to convert and won 29 of the 31 points on his serve, capturing the tiebreak thanks to a trio of unforced errors from Tomic.

Dimitrov was 26/26 on 1st serve pts won vs Raonic in Brisbane
That's almost the longest unbroken streak on the list. Surprised Raonic was not the one with a streak in this match; but then again he did lose in straights. Still he won 21 of 24 1st-serve points.

Sampras won all 19 of his 1st-serve points against Agassi at the ATP Champs. in '96 (round-robin), according to the ATP. In this case we know the ATP stats are correct because Slice Serve Ace has Sampras serving 38 points, in line with the ATP stats.

I've analysed the match point by point

At the end of first set he won 6 consecutive points on first serve, in second set he was 21 from 21 after 1st serve (thats 27) and 4 more at the start on 3rd set

OK thanks I've put him in the list. Tremendous streak, third highest so far.

^did you take any other stats on this match?
There are several points (all on Pete's serve) that the ZDF network never showed. They kept showing service stats (first serves made, success on 1st and 2nd), which is how I filled in the blanks and got the streaks.

The ATP stats for this match are correct.

For Becker I've got a full count: apart from aces he had 30 unreturned serves (23 first serves), of which I judged 7 as service winners.

Sampras, apart from aces, had at least 34 unreturned serves (22 first serves), of which I judged 5 as service winners. He won 6 points not shown and all theoretically could be additional unreturned serves (but not aces).

Becker had 22 non-service winners, potentially one more.
Sampras had 35 non-service winners, potentially six more.

Del Potro won 18 straight points on first serve when he beat Federer in Basel a few weeks ago.

The streak was almost unbroken, he lost finally on the last first serve that he made in the match.

Surprised to not see Mac listed even more. When he was locked in (especially the tight-angle slice that ran his opponent completely out of view of the camera), the returner was helpless. Becker once said he hated returning JP's serve more than anyone, because he had no idea where it was going.

Sampras might have had longer streaks if he didn't suffer recurring boredom. He'd be down 15-40 on his serve and then wait... here it comes... boom, three straight aces. The ironic thing is I truly believe Sampras tried to manufacture suspense in some of his matches. Nobody was buying. He could dial up an ace whenever he wanted.

thank you again you seem to be a nice person
see you around i got some free time before going back to work very soon
loving my job
