I imagine some definitely do once they realize that that's the easiest way to get the base clamps off. It didn't always used to be that way. Older model Gammas didn't have the retainining block, and instead you have to move the clamps down to where there was an O hole, and from the bottom you could remove the clamps by unscrewing the T piece.
Actually you can still do it that way, but removing them via the retaining block is much easier, I think everyone would agree.
