Continental Grip

Okay.. i'm using continental for serve, slice volleys like many players. I have SW grip and a full eastern backhand grip. Now.. some times when you are in some kind of situation where you need a second choice shot, i mean: Up at the net, you can't hit it. just push it over with the continental grip. The continental grip is a saver. My question/ problem is: i can this, i've learned good control with the continetal grip and i've noticed i'm gonna need this second choice shot in the doubles: Can you make a top spin loob with a continental grip? too hard? because, i don't want to change to eastern unless i have to.

I think on the backhand side you are fine, but on the forehand side, ummmm, maybe, but I would like to see you use a more closed face grip like an Eastern or SW for the topspin lob. However, with the Continental it can be done and there isn't anything wrong with using the Continental if that is what you want to know. It really isn't much to change the grip to an Eastern from a Continental if your intention is to lob.

Agree with BB on the continental grip used to topspin lob on the forehand. That would require an aweful lot of upward whipping in order to generate the necessary topspin to keep it in play. Just do what's comfortable for you, and you should be ok.
