Control Racket + Lead = Wilson Hammer !?

Guys,

i've searched for info and I can't find anything specific to this question

Head light rackets = control (I understand this)

Hammer Rackest = Power & Tennis Elbow

Why then is it such a great idea to take a control orientated racket and add lead to make it head heavey ?

I have 2 x StV 85's leaded up to 400g...... (I had this done because I was told it was a good idea many years ago)

....... So I end up with a control racket that's really powerful and then have to string it at 66lb to keep the ball in !!

But Hammer rackets are light (below 300g-10.5oz), and said to be stiff... two circumstances that may produce tennis elbow.
Anyway, how head heavy are you customizing your racket? Cause I have a Hammer 4.0 that literally falls over when you balance it with your index finger... that IS head heavy.
 
In making the Hammer racquets, Wilson generally did not get a HH balance by adding weight to the head but rather by taking it away from the handle. Their static weight, especially in later models, was less than that of the usual player's racquet.
 
thats weird. i never heard of someone turning their HL into HH.

light hammer rackets will give TE, but not if turning your HL into HH. the weight should be a lot if staring at 10.3oz. like me AG300.
 
What causes damage from the Hammer line was due in large part to the low weight. If you've taken HS physics, you know that momentum is conserved, and mv(of tennis ball)=mv(or racket). Thus, the more your racket weighs, the less your racket will be pushed back, and the less shock will be dealt to your arm. This is why light rackets generally aren't a great idea. Thus, when people talk about making HL rackets more HH, it's usually not a problem because of the aforementioned conservation of momentum.

Thanks for all the info guys, that explains the T.E side of things....

How about the control element, I have plans to lead up my PS 88's to 400g (I'm used to the weight and enjoy the feel of a heavey racket) my PS85's are 400g with all the added weight in the hoop. If I add 40g of lead to my PS88 hoop area what would that do to the balance ? surely it would become head heavey ?
