Q: Nastya, what do you think about Hingis's return..
A: I don't care much..
Q: Why so?
A: Very few people in our circle like her. Mostly, because of her mean talk. For instance, she once greeted Sveta Kuznetsova with words like "How are you doing, Terminator?" And that, given that they almost never met before , because when Hingis retired, Sveta had been only starting.. It was said just out of spite.. And you know what she said about me when we played for the first time? She won - not that easy, by the way - and said "this one won't achieve anything".. And I, btw, avenged that loss the next time we played. And now too I'd gladly play against her..

Q. Why should we believe that you'll be back to where you were?

VENUS WILLIAMS: Well, I think that at the end of the day, I don't care if you believe or anyone else believes in here, because it's me. So believe what you want to. There's always going to be nay sayers. You may be one of them, I don't know. Guess what, I don't care.

This is not a controversial quote but I never knew that Serena gets too nervous watching Venus play.

Q. You watched Venus' match, obviously.

SERENA WILLIAMS: I don't watch. Thank God I didn't watch it. I was at home, and I can't watch matches that she plays on TV. I get way too nervous.

I don't really like Hingis for these reasons but it seems like you guys like Hingis.

It seems to me Myskina really lacks sense of humor. What's wrong about

"For instance, she once greeted Sveta Kuznetsova with words like "How are you doing, Terminator?" ".

Terminator is not a negative term. Unfortunately Myskina and many other non-native English speakers don't get it. I am sure Myskina would be mad if Carillo gave her a nickname "chucky". Carillo didn't use it in a negative way.

Naysayer! Always naysaying everything I...create.

It's fun to make fun of Venus, but at the end of the day, she gets the last laugh. She lost a tennis match, and now she gets to go relax and do whatever she wants. If only we could all be so lucky.

Well, quite unlikely they'll face each other at the open unless it's the semis.

If I remember it correctly, in a series of ads used to promote the US Open last year, they used the nickname "The Terminator" to Kuznetsova so maybe that's the reason Hingis called her that and the Russians felt that she was getting too familiar with them.

Correct me if I'm wrong here...

P.S. I'm rooting for Martina!

Martina would do well to keep her focus on her comeback. She played great the other night and a lot of fans want to see her do well. Why complicate her mission and disappoint her supporters by disparaging or trash-talking her opponents, either to their face or in press briefings?

No question she made un-wise comments in the past. I hope she's moved on from there and I hope she does well.

Hingis certainly acted like a brat on occasions but we have to keep in mind how young she was. I suspect she's matured a lot.

Of course, we'll see this year how much she actually has matured, but so far so good... she seems to be saying all the right things right now.

Agree with that.
When she was commenting at AU some time ago, it was noticed that she's very stingy to praise any young talents on the tour. Some sort of jelousy?

But her game is superb!

I don't think that is too Controversial. Controversial is Kafelnikov before a Davis Cup match, trash talk for about 15 minutes with the world's press about how Lleyton Hewiit doens't have a chance against him and that his going to really Whoop His Behind, putting all kinds of pressure over him. In the next day he loses in straight sets...Very tough to keep a staight face after that.:D

Myskina is an odd one - all that sneering and face pulling and dramatics on court - Hingis would torment her something shocking!

Who is in Myskina's "group" - just the Russians?

You know, I completely agree. Always used to root against her because she was such a brat.

But I have to admit--having seen her play yesterday--I really do miss seeing smart, strategic, non error-ridden play in women's tennis. Maybe Hingis will be a little more humbled during this return.

I don't think a one slam wonder should be making comments like that about a legend of the game.
can you imagine if Sampras came back and Gaudio said some like that?

Before she left, Hingis talked more smack than anyone on either tour. If she starts to win, she'll be talking smack again. Don't forget the difference: Trash-talking is dissing your opponents -- talking smack is popping your own collar.

In today's game, no one talks more smack than the great Roger himself -- "I have the best backhand in the world ..." "I love watching myself play ... " "I win all the time ..." "I love to play Andy because I always win ..."

As blunt as Martina is and as blunt as Gimelstob is, can you imagine what their conversations were like when they were dating?

That shirt looks horrible Justin
Your hair looks stringy Martina
Shall we have French food for dinner tonight?
Hell no, hamburgers all the way!

and so on...

I was watching Federer's interview last night and he said something along the lines off "I have all the solutions...," but I think that is a reasonable comment, and he definitely doesnt say things like that too often. I don't really recall him saying:

"I have the best backhand in the world ..." "I love watching myself play ... " "I win all the time ..."

Mary Carrillo: "Schett happens" - not a cool thing to say, but no one has even made a fuss.

Back here in the US, everyone is upset because Hilary Clinton used the "P" word: Plantation. What?! Supposedly it has negative conotations. I still don't get it.

This is hilarious, I can just imagine it, could that be why they didn't last too long?

Yes, he said his opponents come out and play very aggressively, but he has too many answers for them, which is accurate. Let's face it, he does. I don't remember the best backhand in the world comment, but he has said he loves watching himself play. He only lost a few matches last year, that is just about winning all the time.

You either take Federer's words out of context or use wrong quote. He didn't say "I love to play Andy because I always win", he said "I love to play Andy, not because I win".

Myskina isn't exactly known as an emotionally stable intellectual...

Exactly. She's a bit bi*chy. And Hingis isn't exactly known as an intellectual at all :))

Honestly, just listen to what she says in her interviews - she's thick as two short planks. It helps her winning, no doubts about that. And whatever you say she IS indeed unpopular amongst players due to her attitude.

I love her tennis though.

HAHA...yea...even though what venus during her interview was a little bitter...it was definately the best quote i've heard of an after match interview. They played it on espn a few days ago, so if you saw it, it just makes it that much better.

Holy mother of youknowwho, she does have jaws of steel. Martina was onto something, you know, those jaws and plus Kuz has unbelievably huge inhumanly pumped quads. I can see Chucky's point in that one.
