Who do you got? How soon into proceedings will @Sudacafan cry about Messi? Will the United States live up to its 'generational hype'? Will @Feña14 win this version of fantasy as well? Will Eddie Casemiro be permanently banned from all managerial gigs?
Hi, dear International TTW Football community.
I have to confess something really terrible.
I am now waiting for my flight, back home from Buenos Aires, where I came to visit for a 10 day holiday.
During my stay here, I bought the official jersey of the Argentinian National Team....

With the number 10 and Messi name tag.

I hope that the national team I want to win it, wins it.
It doesn't always happens that way.

Brazil? I do not see it.

As for the United States, it's time to put up or shut up. Anything less than a semi-final to me would be unacceptable. This is not an overly strong field.

I don't care if I am a glory hunter but Messi with another trophy please.

Nah I don't consider it glory hunting. I think rooting for a country based on the player(s) make sense. Especially if your own country is not in the tournament --- when Netherlands had RVP I was actually aligned with @Red Rick . Now that they have headband Depay and no RVP, I wish for them to lose every game.

Right there with you, my friend. Well, apart from the flight to Buenos Aires (I wish) :D

Although as you can see, I prefer Uruguayan Mate.

As for the tournament. Should be an interesting one.

I think Brazil could go out early.. or win it. It’s the first time the team and manager have spent time together, so they should improve throughout. My only concern is the smaller pitches in America, it doesn’t suit their lightning fast counterattacks.

Argentina, to me, feels like the last hurrah. They need to answer the Messi question long term, the centre backs need a bit of an overhaul (Otamendi can’t stay much longer). They have good ones in Romero and Martinez, it needs to be their time to shine. I also really like Anselmino, but obviously he’s not in the squad and is a year or two away. Left back is also an issue, but overall? I’d say they’re rightly the favourites.

Uruguay are everyone’s dark horse, and I’d agree with that. I’ve actually put a bet on Darwin finishing as top scorer. Only concern with them is the blistering hot weather in America at the moment. Not the most conducive to Bielsa ball. The spine of the team is top though.

Really looking forward to seeing Ecuador (I’ve also got a Kendry Paez shirt, courtesy of some friends in Brazil). I love their defence (Hincapie, Pacho, Torres), Caicedo and Kendry play so well together.. their issue? The whole country wants the manager sacked, and they have no goals in the team. Could be a candidate for flop of the tournament.

Another candidate for flop of the tournament is Mexico.

The two teams to watch that are flying under the radar? USA for sure, and Colombia, although they’re more fancied. Maybe it’ll be the coming out party for Jhon Duran before he moves to Chelsea, because they’ll need it. They’re another team where it’s hard to see who’s going to get the goals.

Euros: a beautiful display of team work and tactics much like a graceful ballet

The Copa: a drunken bum fight taking place in the back alley over who gets the last scrap of pizza in the dumpster

“What are the USMNT lacking?”

A lot of vowels? :D

Imagine if all teams did that. We’d have the DROTCMFNT lining up at AFCON. It’s enough to make them want to change their name back to Zaire.

Nah I do like USA, the quality so far suggests they have more than enough to go pretty deep. A tournament is always more fun when the hosts play a big part.

They're kind of the poor mans version of England. Should be a bit of a golden generation, but Berhalter is a meme. Anything less than at least a SF would be very disappointing. Idk though in reality Colombia and Uruguay might be the real third best. We shall see. We need someone other than the Big 2 to show up to make this interesting. It's not looking like it will be any of the teams we have seen so far.

Also they're definitely most lacking a striker.

Yeah, the lack of number 9’s around is shocking. It’s definitely a bit of a theme of this tournament.

Even Brazil look like they’ll be rolling with Rodrygo and Vini kind of making it up as they go along. Endrick might play his way in, but even then, I wouldn’t say he was really a number 9.

Then you have teams who could be pretty good, like Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela.. they’re relying on Enner Valencia and Rondon. Duran performed for Villa when he had a chance this season (he didn’t get much game time). Maybe he could step up for Colombia.

Uruguay have Darwin, which could be a big advantage.. or a total disaster :-D I don’t even think he knows. I think they’re playing in Miami tomorrow. He’ll either put it top bins, or it’ll come down in Cuba.

I must be crazy because I’m not actually that scared of Uruguay and think the US has a real chance to win this group. Of course, Berhalter will mug it up

USA thought they had a great chance in the cricket World Cup after the opening game..

Unfortunately it came crashing down to earth earlier today :p

I do agree though, I think you’ve got a good chance. The only downside is the side of the draw. Brazil and Uruguay are probably joint second favourites, there’s really not much to choose between them. Not impossible, but I don’t see it at the moment.

On a side note, I think the semi would be in NC. Are you attending?

England just beat India's B team in USA. Can they beat the A team? ;)

I have no clue what that made up sport you’re referring to is but it seems fun.

I’d love to go but tickets seem expensive. If the US makes it I may have to go tho

It’s like baseball, except one strike and you’re out, they’re allowed to throw it at your body/head, you have to hit as many HR’s, singles, doubles etc.. as you can before that one strike ends your game. Essentially.

Ahh that’s crazy! I thought the whole idea was to get more fans from America interested? Plus full stadiums to see how logistics/security handle it before the World Cup, a dress rehearsal kind of thing.

Sounds like nobody wins.

I’ve only seen two games so far, the opener at the Falcons stadium looked packed. Ecuador at the 49ers? Not so much. I think saying half full would be generous.
