The Copa América Centenario (English: Centennial Cup America)[2][3] is an international men's association football tournament being held in the United States in 2016. The competition is a celebration of the centenary of CONMEBOL and the Copa América, and is the first Copa América hosted outside of South America.[4]

The tournament is the 45th edition of Copa América since its inception in 1916. It is being held as part of an agreement between CONMEBOL (the South American football confederation) and CONCACAF (the football confederation for North and Central America and the Caribbean) as a special edition between the usual four-year cycle, and features an expanded field of 16 teams (an increase from the usual 12), with all ten teams from CONMEBOL and six teams from CONCACAF. The winner of this tournament will not receive an invitation to the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup, as Chile has already qualified by winning the 2015 Copa América.

Yes. Every game was telecast.

Assuming there are no injuries or people out with yellow card accumulation, ARG probably gets their revenge. But CHI's counterattack is very good and I wouldn't be surprised if they get the upset again.

Brilliant final. Couldn't have asked for better. It'll balance out with the disappointment that is the Euro and the inevitable French title.

what this year?

Already considerably ahead career wise.

But Ronaldo could take advantage of the soft euros draw... Portugal winning the Euros would be a game changer for Ronaldo's legacy.
Only if they start playing better. But somehow I see them getting past Croatia even though the latter have been playing better football.

Well, some people argue for Ronaldo and others for Messi, it must mean it's pretty close. A title with their national teams would definitely put one ahead of the other, I think. Even though traditionally it's much harder to win a tournament when you're Portugal than when you're Argentina, so I'd rank Ronaldo's achievement ahead of Messi's.

This time we will win the final. 2-1 I think.

We have some players injured that will not play the final (first team players: Di María, Augusto Fernandez, Lavezzi) but we still have a better team than Chile. Our defense is solid, I love the defense that we have this year with Mercado-Otamendi-Funes Mori-Rojo (better than last year's). Messi is playing amazing since the beggining of the tournament, Higuain is scoring again..

So hopefully on sunday we will win a tournament after 23 years, we deserve it.

Unless Chile wins, in which case they deserve it. :p

I didn't mean to write "deserved", I mean we deserve it lol.

Especially in these years, so close in 2014 with the World Cup, last year with the Copa America in Chile.. To lose 3 finals in a row, that would be very sad. I already watched Murray losing his last 3 GS finals, don't want to watch Argentina losing 3 finals in a row as well :(

What is the buzz like in Argentina? 23 years is a long time.

TBF, almost all say Messi.

Yeah, I don't think it is a big deal to win a Copa with Argentina, especially when this is a 'bonus' tournament. But still a good feather in the cap. If he did end his career without a trophy for Argentina it would be a black mark imo.

Going with Argentina to win it, they came so close against Brazil in the final back in 2004.

Messi's placement of his free-kick the other night was simply superb.

You'd think it'd be Argentina, but Chile obviously with a good chance, defending champions and an excellent team also. Seem to have played great from what I've seen, which hasn't been very much, but 7-0 on Mexico and comfortable 2-0 win over a good side in Columbia ain't bad either. Surprised they've had no votes yet to be honest, expect a close game.

argentina ..they seem 'onit', messi is on fire (5 goals and several assists), and arg beat chile 2-1 right at the start already.

after 2 major finals (2014wc, copa2015)..messi's mob will be victorious.

In fact Messi won the 2005 South American U-20 Championship, which was qualifier to the 2005 FIFA World Youth Championship, then he won that tournament also. And he won the Olympic Gold Medal with Argentina in 2008; in that ocassion men's teams were allowed to augment their squads with up to three players over the age of 23. He have to win with the main team now. Maybe Argentina would have won the 2011 Copa America in Argentina if they had not lost in the penalty shootout against Uruguay in the quarterfinals; they also lost in the the penalty shootout the 2015 final; they lost in quarterfinals against Germany in the World Cup 2006 also in the penalty shootout; in a match Argentina deserved to win; the coach decided to not included a young Messi. In 2010 Argentina had a great team but a bad coach; and in 2014 they lost again against Germany, but in the extra-time. Argentina had the most clear chances in that match. Messi and Argentina Team had been a little bit unlucky. I hope today they win.

Bad performance of the referee. Messi was not simulating, he clashed with the defender and fell. He didn´t deerve a yellow card. Rojo fault was not for a red card, also it looks like the referee initially had sent off a chilean player and then changed the decision!

This match is a microcosm of why I and many Americans will never get too passionate about this sport. The refs are too easily bamboozled; then double down with silly makeup calls (the red to ARG).

Love the skill. But until they have multiple refs and/or use real time video review to get calls right, punitive penalties to divers, I can't get too invested.

And this HORRIBLE and AWFUL referee is, of course, from my national league. One of the worst I've ever seen. God damn Heber Roberto Lopes. I hate you, baldie.

Unbelievable. I'm still young but I'm starting to think that i'll never see my country winning a football tournament.

Deja vu for the third time in 3 years, don't know what else to say.

23 years, at least 25 without lifting a trophy.

Lo siento, amigo.

Maybe he will change his opinion; but he says he is leaving the National Team, apparently Mascherano took the same decision; and also they said Aguero says goodbye to the National Team; and rumors says Lavezzi and Di Maria will take the same decision.

So the story is (obviously) that Messi lost and not that Chile won an amazing double?
Not surprising.
Typical example of trying to make a guy bigger than a team. Chile is like Germany. No one knows who the individuals are but they win. The media does this. They take one dude and elevate him to god like status. They do this in so many sports.

It's incredibly disrespectful to Chile that they've won the second Copa América in a row - and are obviously the leading South-American team right now - and I can't find a single description of the final that actually tells the story of this achievement. It's not even a backstory to the main soap opera that is Messi, the media has simply obliterated it. They should get their priorities right.

My wife is German and she was so pissed in 2014 during the WC. Germany was pounding everyone, then beat Argentina in the final, yet all the talk was about one guy on the losing team.
