Could Andy beat a 2010 Rafa at Wimbledon?

Happy as I am for Andy to have finally conquered his demon (weight of a nation), I can't help to feel that perhaps he was a little fortunate that both Rafa and Roger have past their grass court primes.

A prime Rafa on grass was devastating as all those semifinal beatdowns have proven.

I'd give Andy two sets (going down in five) against a 2010 Rafa at Wimbledon.:-?

Nahh.. Nadal would demolish him. Murray needed Verdasco to choke two sets away just to win this year. Murray has never beaten Nadal on grass. Don't see how he beats a 2010 peak-like Nadal who won 3 slams that year

Andy couldn't beat a 2005-2013 Rafa on any surface, so he definitely couldn't beat 2010 Rafa on Wimbledon. The H2H is like 5-13?

Nadal all the way...yes if verdasco can take it to 5 sets and choked , nadal could have definitely won..., Novak did something very wrong in this match, i mean if verd can take him to 5 why not world # 1

No, he would lose definitely. He is better than past prime Federer and Djokovic on grass for sure though. Nadal is a tough matchup for him on natural surfaces.

We'll never know the answer to this.

Don't be too quick to write Murray off though. He was superb today, and much better than anyone Nadal faced in 2010 (including 2010 Murray).

and rafa needed haase to be injured and take a fake MTO vs petzschener after being down 2 sets to one in both cases. LOL !

He would probably lose. Nadal owns him on clay and grass. Then again it would be close. Murray is a better player and better competitor now than he was today, and Nadal in 2010 was already not at the level he reached in 2007-2008 on grass.

Who knows. Murray was weak in the head back then, his game wasn't as good either. Wouldn't really know where to start dissecting that one.

That's assuming a prime Andy on grass, he's definitely playing a lot better now on hard and grass than he was in 2010 (lost to Rafa 6-4, 7-6, 6-4). Andy would've been able to hang with Rafa with the way he's been playing in 2013.

I think people tend to forget we are talking 2010 Rafa at the slams here. The guy was a dang machine that year from RG-USO.

Don't make me laugh.. Murray would be lucky to win a set. Murray isn't all that great. Just taking advantage of the circumstance of Nadal-Fed way past their primes, and DJoker back to almost his 2009-2010 headcase-fitness form.

Nadal also wasnt at his grass court peak anymore I think even then. I would say Rafa's peak/primes by surfaces would be:

Clay: peak 2007-2010, prime 2007-2013
Grass: peak 2007-2008, prime 2007-2010 (maybe 2011)
Hard courts: peak 2009-2011, prime 2008-today

So Murray who probably is currently at his physical and mental peak now would make it close on grass.

Nadal needed to cheat against Petzchner, and needed that Haase choked that 2-1 Lead.

I don't think so.

Andy tried to choke really hard today but Djoko was having none of it.

Andy also struggled with Dasco whereas Rafa was damn good in second week 2010 WB.

It's weird, I've seen Andy play far better in other WB but he had to face either Nadal or Federer whereas in 2013 he was so-so but faced a deflated Djoker in the last act and he finally got his WB.

LOL not a chance. Nadal is 9-1 against Murray in sets at Wimbledon for a reason. Murray looks so tough against a bunch of journeymen (heck Verdasco should've beaten him in the QF) and a tired Djokovic in the final (let's not kid ourselves - grass is by far his worst surface).

The only player from recent times who could match that Nadal was prime Federer on grass. Prime Federer on grass would also obliterate today's Murray.

Keep the fail threads coming. It's brilliant.

Andy Murray: Wimbledon champion 2013

You know dvery well inside that Murray needed major major help from the crowd, the draw, his opponents choking or being tired (Verdasco/Djokovic) to finally win Wimbledon.

How can you not be in your clay prime and win every single big tournamen on the surface like Nadal did on clay in 2005-2006 (heck he didn't even lose on clay in 2006 playing 3 matches against peak Federer)?

Nadal from 2005/06 beats Nadal on clay in 2013.

And yet, he still win and only butthurts like you will remember that.

On the topic, don't think Andy could beat Rafa. But I never thought that the Novak would have beaten Rafa on clay before 2011 too, so...

far better in which other wimby ? only 12. just that he was stopped by federer.

Rafa beats Andy of 2013, 2012 Murray has a shot though.

agree .....the 12 version of murray vs nadal of wimby 10 second week would be a close contest

13 version of murray, nadal probably wins in 4.

No. A lot of people remember. Including Nadal because he didn't play any games this year and only cried a little when they closed the roof for the 5th against Rosol.

No, Murray couldn't do it. Not at Wimbledon, not at RG, not on Mars.

There you go, little fix for me buddies :)
