Donald I know u r reading this.

Recently DY has gone on a 14 match losing streak, and I would want to see him play Serena. Who do u have ur money on?

Sidenote: Young just lost to #402 Steve Johnson in 3 sets.

I would bet my money on Young..no offense to the women's game but her strong serve just would't give her the advantage vs a player like young.

Really, even roddick isn't hitting second serves at 112-114 mph. Serena's first serve is faster than ferrer's first serve, and is probably as good as young's.

Ferrer definitely hits a harder first and second serve than serena. He hits in the 120s much more consistently and his average second serve speed at wimbledon was about 100 mph, whereas serena's average second serve speed was around 85 mph.

I got curious. At Wimbledon, Ferrer's average 1st and 2nd serve speeds were, respectively, 109mph and 92 mph.

Serena's average 1st and 2nd serve speeds at Wimby were 106 mph and 87 mph.

Donald Young, in his 1st Wimby round loss, had average 1st and 2nd serve speeds of 106mph and 82 mph.

So Ferrer serves harder than Serena, although the gap isn't huge. The same doesn't seem to be the case with Young. In any case, saying Serena's 1st serve is like a guy's 2nd serve seems wildly inaccurate.

Obviously (to me) Young would still win, but it wouldn't be because every atp guy would smack return winners off of every Serena serve, imo.

Is this a joke? No disrespect to WTA players, but any top 2500 ATP player could trounce any WTA player without breaking a sweat. 6-0 6-0 if they wanted to.

These comparos always crack me up. The suggestion is often that because any pro man could beat any pro woman (the Braasch-Williams affair proved this once and for all), the women are no good.

What follows is typically extreme nonsense, like the weekend warrior male being able to beat a female pro. Not a chance of this happening.

Tennis is very relative. There is a huge gap between pro men and pro women. A huge gap between pros and college players. And, yes, a huge gap between pro women and just about any man who is not a pro!

I think Aneres could win a couple games in each set.

It's a match I'd love to see, that's for sure.

I'm assuming The Don could win this, but these days with DY you just can't be sure.

How about our own tony larson against Serena? tony would not even work up a sweat... maybe a little sweaty but not enough to change clothes after before going to the store.

I'm pretty sure DY would destroy Serena, and it has nothing to do with their serves. Yes, Serena has an outstanding serve for a female player, and even okay for a male player, while DY has a decidedly average (or below) serve for a guy. I don't think this would matter at all. It may allow Serena, when serving, to not be in defensive positions off the return as much as a typical female player would be, and DY's serve may allow Serena to actually get into the point more than she would against a guy with a better serve. Still wouldn't matter.

Why are some of the guys in this forum so obsessed with whether an ATP player can beat a WTA player. Other than mixed doubles or a few exhibitions it will never happen in a sanctioned tournament. Is it because those obsessed have had their butts handed to them on the tennis courts by a gal and look to the ATP players to avenge them and regain their manhood. And to top it off a lot of you guys insult Serena by calling her a man and that she should play in the ATP and in the next breath state that she would be destroyed by a junior male player. Make up your minds.

All things being equal, men are bigger, stronger and faster than women. The male athletes who choose to become professional are going to be even bigger and stronger than the female athletes. It's not a big deal. They play on separate tours for that reason.

But Serena is much bigger than D Young, especially the thigh and the hip.

True, but Donald Young has the male hormone testosterone flowing through his body which causes his individual muscle cell to be able to generate more strength than a women's muscle cell. Mind you, I'm talking about elite athletes who constantly are training their muscles and increasing their strength. There would be no contest between the ATP and the WTA. Serena against 99.99% of the posters in this forum-- she would hand them each of their butts on a platter.

lets not exaggerate. he would surely win, but it's not like there would be competitive points/games.

Lets be honest. Serena has bigger balls than Young. Nothing intimidates her. Young has the physical advantage of being male. I give the mental edge to Serena and we all know that its mental at the top of tennis.

Do we need to say any more than this.

The better question is men are used to returning serves well over 120 mph, it is not how hard you serve, it is more about how effective it will be. Serena's serve would not have the same effect as it does in the women's game. 120 mph is pretty pedestrian in the men's game.

We have a winner!! Someone posting something that makes sense. What a concept.
