Countries in the Rankings, A Closer Look.

G.O.A.T.
With over 50 developed nations and about 50 more with the capabilities to produce pro players, I found some interesting notes on the Top 500 (after which you essentially have players who aren't winning ranking points very often). For convenience I did it alphabetically although only countries I thought could generate some discussion.

Argentina has 23 men inside the Top 500, six in the Top 80 and six inbetween 117-182, the women's side highest ranked player is #262.
Australia perhaps unsurprisingly has a whopping 51 players inside the Top 500 but only one inside the Top 20 and two inside the Top 30 and one woman and man both occupying #38 spots.
Austria's best player is of course Dominic Thiem and has been for a while, what's quite astounding is on both tours there's no other player anywhere close the Top 100 with Dennis Novak at #142 being the closest although only 11 players overall are ranked inside the Top 500.
The small nation of Belarus carries 4 women in the Top 100 with 4 more before 500 while the men have 4 of their own but only #94 for the men.
Belgium with 19 players in the Top 500 can boats one man at #22, a woman at #14 and two more women at #50 and #52, but then drops to #116 with a man and woman occupying that particular spot.
Bolivia's Hugo Dellien at #123 is gonna take it home as one of only two players with a point under his country's flag.
Bosnia has all 4 men with any ranking points inside the Top 305 and two guys inside the Top 100 with of course no notable marks thus far. Unfortunately for the women there isn't one inside the Top 500.
Brazil has 14 players inside the Top 500 but the top 3 rankings are #123, #127 and #133 all on the mens.
Bulgaria's tennis is single handedly flown by Dimitrov as he is the only man or woman inside the Top #147 on either side and the 2nd best Bulgarian man sits #329.
Canada with it's history, population, wealth and proximity to the US is always a disappointment but currently has 3 men inside the Top 71 and 18 players overall inside the Top 500 but Euginie Bouchard is the top woman at #81 while Felix and Polansky sit at #106 and #118.
China's women are doing so far better than the men it has to be pointed out. The WTA sees 3 women in the Top 50 and 11 in the Top 200 while the men's best player is #217 and there are two more women ranked ahead of him in the 200s.
Croatia has 5 players inside the Top 69 with a population of only 4.1 Million and 16 inside the Top 500 giving it the highest per capita rate (with at least 10 players).
Czech Republic has just over 10.5 Million people and yet has 29 inside the Top 500 which includes 8 in the Top 100 (6 on the women's side)
If you thought Denmark only had Wozniaki in the Top 500, you'd be right with the single biggest disparity (of 2 or more players) on any of the tours the next best woman comes in at #710 while the men have 2 guys at #331 and #429.
Ecuador has 1 guy in the Top 366, Andres Gomez isn't doing his job.
Finland's highest player is #378 and only 2 reside in the Top 500.
France has 68 players inside the Top 500 with 9 men in the Top 100 second only to the States.
Georgia similar to Greece only has Basilashvili as a male player with any points but like with Greece there are more women (3) in the Top 500.
Germany on the rise with a pretty astounding 13 men inside the Top 183 and a total 31 in the Top 500 (with one man at #501) with an additional 20 women in the Top 500.
Great Britain carries 29 players in the Top 500 with Edmun and Konta occupying Top 40 spots but then nobody until #93 on the men.
Greece's only Top 500 male player is indeed Tsitsipas, he's the only one with a single point! But there are 4 more woman.
Hungary does pretty well for it's size but only 3 players for either tour inside the Top 252
India's 13 total players inside the Top 500 for either tour gives them the worst per capita ratio.
Indonesia's best player is ranked #671 and with 264 million people you'd think I'd be shaming them but without any history in the sport this shouldn't be that surprising, still statistically at least unique.
Italy competing with France carries 58 players inside the Top 500 but their highest rank player at #13 beats France at #18 (where they have a 2nd player sitting).
Ireland is home to 6.5 million. Not that big comparatively but why is it with such proximity to countries like Britain and France their best ranked player is #610? Seriously, this is just weird.
Israel has 2 men and 2 women inside the Top 500 with their best player on the women's ranked #129 and the only better than #240.
To say Japan's tennis hasn't exploded as of late would be lunacy. There are now a total 41 total players inside 500 with nearly twice as many women as men.
Of Latvia's 4 players inside the Top 500, 3 are #83 or better.
Netherlands has 16 in the Top 500 but only 2 in the top 111 for both tours.
Norway doesn't beat Finland much with only 3 inside the Top 500 but their best player is ranked #111 on the men's.
Portugal has 7 men in the Top 500 while the best ranked woman is #621.
Romania has had Halep propping up their program and now has 6 women in the Top 100 and 21 in the 500. The men however got 2 in the 500 with Copil carrying the flag off the back of his Basel final.
Russia has 53 players inside the Top 500 with a lot more women than men and their best shot at an ATP Slam is under the German flag.
Serbia isn't as bad as you'd think and no the 2nd best ATP player isn't another Djokovic it's Lajovic! A total 10 men and 7 women are in the Top 500 with a population of only 7 million.
Why yes, Kevin Anderson IS the only notable active South African tennis player around with a total 4 in the 500.
Slovakia will forever be competitive with their brother Czechs with 17 players inside the Top 500 despite half the population and 6 in the Top 100.
South Korea's tennis scene is pretty sparse after Chung with only 9 more players in the 500 but nowhere near Chung's 25 ranking.
Spain should come as no surprise boasting a rather obscene figure of 34 men and 18 women while Spain's population is 46.5 million in case you thought it was more.
Sweden has it's own discussion but here I'll say no man inside the Top 100 and a total 3 in the Top 500 while the women have two inside the Top 77 but then the next one sits #412 to round out the Top 500.
Switzerland only has 16 players inside the Top 500 despite a much stronger history and leadership atop with Federer and Hingis (Bencic being the best right now) and twice the population of Croatia, uh oh.
Tunisia's Malek Jaziri holding high at #42. Him and Ons Jabeur are the two reps on the 500.
Ukraine has 7 women ranked above the men's Stakhovsky at #134
USA tennis has been dogged for years and yet they lead the ATP with 10 men inside the Top 100. And yes the most players inside the Top 500.
