court ff2 - ss ff2 - gr8 all court DILEMMA

Hi guys, I got myself the GR8s today via post. Reason I got them was that I didnt have a chance to try the other two shoes mentioned above as they were not available in my size.
To my suprise I found a shop today where they have the other two in my size.
Now I have a dilemma whether to return the gr8s while I can and go for the court ff2s or ss ff2.

What are your thoughts, what is your choice? I play only on artificial grass, money is not an issue. Need the shoes to be mostly stable in case the court gets lightly wet (UK) but dont want them to be too heavy either.
All comments will be appreciated.

I own and play the GR8 and FF2 pretty much interchangeably. The FF2 has more support in the uppers and is a little faster forward and back. Side to side stability is great, but not as stable as the GR8. I find the forefoot and heel cushioning better in the GR8, but the FF2 is good also. Just not as much sole cushioning. Tread is about the same but not as quick as the solution speeds which my wife has, and I tried once. The GR8 is a great shoe for playing groundstrokes, and the FF2 is great for all court aggressive moving. No tongue on FF2 and as I said before, uppers support and comfort is better with FF2, but you can lace the GR8 tighter. It's really a toss-up. Both are fantastic shoes.

I get a lot of heel slip in my GR8 to the point that it is unplayable since it feels so unstable. The FF2 is my shoe of choice because it is so stable and locks you in. A sign of a great shoe is not having to think about your shoes at all when playing. I love the FF2 so much I bought 3 pair so when they get discontinued I can still have them.

The GR8 needs a runners knot using the last shoelace hole for most players to prevent heel slippage. Once you lace like that, it is a great shoe and I prefer it to other Asics models on hard courts as it lasts longer with better support.

thanks for all your replies guys. I will try on the court ff2 one more time and decide between them and the GR8s

the thing is i use a runners knot for better lockdown but i still feel slippage. Also I just want a shoe that works right out of the box and the FF2 are like that for me. The only drawback is the thin shoelace so I just replaced that with a thicker one

Got my FF2 today. What an attractive looking shoe! Sleek, stealth. Played for 2 hours right out of the box. Very comfortable. Very supporting. Love the fit and feel.

Where did you get the FF2? I haven't had much luck finding them in stock anywhere.

EDIT: Nevermind, found them in stock at Tennis Warehouse. Ordered!

Ha, I got the black with green trim ones here. Played again today. Dang, these are now my favorite shoes. Ordering the white ones right now.

I just got two more pair of the ff2. I never got a chance to try other asics but i have used this shoe on clay and hard and really enjoyed it. Not sure about grass or artificial grass in your case but I have a more narrow foot so the locking in and relatively loose lace tie job i to do has been comfortable.

I may try the barricade when they are back out as that was my go to before.

I also have plantar fasciatis in my left heel but it has never affected me on court. Only the next day in the AM so I dont think it is the shoe but rather my hip and leg alignment.

so guys, made the decision, got the court ff2s. Im Uk size 8 but 7.5 felt better. It a bit tricky to get my feet in but once inside it feel really good. The GR8 felt way too cushioned to me

Third day in a row with the SSFF2. My gosh, light, comfortable, supportive. Ordered another pair of the black/green and the white/black.

I was a bit shocked when switching over from my worn out SSFF's to the new SSFF2's. My feet feel like I'm gliding around the court and they don't hurt at all when I'm done. They also fixed the dumb plastic crinkling.

How is sizing with the SSFF2's?

I am an 11 in GR8's, should I go the same route with the SSFF2? The GR8's ran a little longer this year as I normally wear an 11.5 and an 11.5 in Solutions in the past.

Thanks.

Love the SSFF2 so much, now have 2 of the black green, one white black, and the teal being delivered Monday. I’ve got to stop.

I've been unusually all over the map with these iterations. Normally I'm a 10 in most shoes but with the GR8 had to size down to 9 1/2 to help with the heel slippage issue plus the annoying extra room off the end of the toe; the SSFF2 had to go 10.5s because the 10s were just too narrow. I have a wider foot with a high arch, so take that for what it's worth. I'm more jammed in to the 9.5 GR8 than I'd like to be but the shoe is the best performer for me at the moment so I'm sticking with it even if they aren't a perfect fit.

I've read through and don't think anyone has mentioned the difference in CFF2 vs GR8 sizing.
As other have said in this thread, i found that i had to move half a size down in the GR8. I also decided to go for a wide when i moved down in size, but now that they're broken in i'm not sure I HAD to do that, but i still think its likely preferable.

Normally a 13, but went 12.5 wide in GR8

How should I order the CFF2? I see 12.5 and 13 available in different colorways. If these are more narrow than GR8 standard widths are, then it may be a moot point anyways... If they're just as wide as standard GR8, i should be able to make it fit.

I have been using GR8 for the past year, where I'm size 9US/42.5 EU and I ordered and received solution speed ff 2 in same size now, but they feel a tad small, will they stretch a bit given that the construction is different to GR8, anyone experience the same? I am mainly worried about my toe-box that is very tight. I am quite positive that I need to go up one size but thought I'd check.

I own all three models. Here is my pick.
1. SSFF2
2. GR8
3. CFF2

Glove-feel type of design (CFF2) is tricky. I can see it is most comfortable shoes if you have the right shape of feet. I don't and it feels tight on me as a result, it feels heavy.
SSFF2 gives me the best overall feel in terms of speed and comfort.

Just my 2 cents.

You won't go wrong with ether one.

Just to revert on my findings after switching from GR8 to SSFF2. I went up a half size for SSFF2, it is a great shoe, the GR8 offers more stability but it comes at the cost of mobility, also I feel that SSFF2 and it's construction is much more comfortable. The only con I have personally found with SSFF2 is that the traction on court is almost too good, which could lead to an injury, I wouldn't really be able to slide with them.

The all-court soles? I heard they're meant/designed to slide a little, no? I have the clay courts, a very good speed shoe once I sized up but certainly not as stable as GR8. Just depends what one is looking for between the two.

FF2 are the best tennis shoes I have used as well.
Before using them for the first time I told myslef that I have to remember how they played and then during play I totally forgot that I even had any new shoes on. And that says it all. It is the best compliment if you forget the shoes areeven on.

I gotta say that after a couple of months of the GR8s I came back to the Speed FF2s and I was amazing how fast I was moving.
Even my opponent complimented on reaching some ridiculous drops and angles.
I really wonder if it's the shoes or I just had a good day on the court.
The GR8s are 448g - 15.8oz and the Speed FF2s are 375g - 13.2oz !
That's a lot less "swingweight" on the feet...

I think I prefer the GR8. Just bought the FF2 today but feel like they are a little more flexible, which I don’t care for because I like switching direction

I play tested all of them. GR8 is the most plush/soft of them. Speed FF 2 the most speedy and FF Court 2 a hybrid. My main issue with Court 2 was that i didn’t have feedback from the ground…. the most stable of the 3. GR8 is for heavy body’s to protect knees and offer a smoother ride. It’s my favourite in terms of the looks but it lacks ankle lockdown. Speed FF 2 was the biggest surprise….. ASICS hit the sweet spot in terms of cushioning and light weight. I was amazed of how cushioned it was…. it has by far the best rebound and faster reaction on first step…. also great lateral stability and even more amazing traction…. foot Doctor mentioned that it was difficult to slide and he was 100% correct. At last it also offers the best ground feedback. I see no reason for anyone not to prefer speed ff 2 which is also the cheaper option from ASICS…. the only negative of speeds is probably that it has the worst durability of the 3. I am ordering ASAP another pair for clay courts. The glory days of speed 2s are back.

How is the toe box area? The GR6 were a little tight and caused a little pain at the base of my big toe. I switched to Ubersonic 2 and 3, which had plenty of room. the Ubersonic 4 are a little snug.

GR8 are the widest resolution on the toe box I’ve ever tried. If you ll found a way to secure the fluffy ankle area go get them.

Thanks. I think I'll give them a try. I always liked the sturdiness of the shoe. Hopefully, I can find them in my size. Not much luck, when I looked yesterday.

I was kicking around the FF Court as well. I do like the boot style, like I've been wearing in the Ubersonics.

EDIT: I play 90% on clay, if that matters.

For me GR8 US13 is the perfect length so no''fluffy ankle area'' but they are a bit narrow in the middle side-upper with great toe box though. The greatest weakness is their slippery outsole when there isn't too much clay on court.Fell once and since then they rest at home...

How's the heft? My Ubersonic 4's are starting to come apart. They do squeeze my feet and when I play for some time, the base of my left toe hurts --- hurts now. :) So, I need to look at new shoes, pretty quickly.

I gave re8s a second chance but they are so unstable on the heel area. If you have issues with plantar fasciitis stay away.

Anyone able to comment on the sizing between these three? Specifically, I'm a Court FF2 size 9 and looking to get a GR8.

Some are saying half a size up and others half a size down. I would just try in person but as you know that is very hard these days. Would love any insight!

I’ll try and remember to reply to this. Have a pair of Court FF2 en route and a pair of GR8 already.

Court FF - half size down
GR8 - half size down
Speed FF - true size

I like Speed FF the most, a good balance of value, comfort and performance.

Safe to stay in same size as FF2 I think. I have a wide foot and normally wear a 10 but went 9.5 in GR8s because they run long and have a heel-slip issue. The Speed FF2s are actually better for me a half size up from normal at a 10.5 but that’s due to my wide feet and probably wouldn’t be the case for most.

I can echo what has been said already, get the same size gr8 as you have for the court ff2
