crack in racquet vs. crack in paint job

I have a hairline crack where the throat meets the bridge. It runs all the way around to the other side. I've chipped the paint/veneer off and can't find any crack of the racquet underneath. I'm thinking that the paint job is all that's cracked. Has anyone ever had this happen--i.e. a cracked paint job but not a cracked racquet? Is it even possible? (probably a stupid question, I know.)

Tap (with your nuckle) around the frame and you should find out if the frame is cracked or not by the sound it makes, compared to the other parts of the frame.
