Djokovic has made himself a topic of public controversy, so global media wants to question officials about every possibility. He could stop this tomorrow.

I feel as if the Victoria's officials get paid for every word they say to their media there. Hard not to notice how bitter they are with the two words "Novak Djokovic"

Tennis Australia boss Craig Tiley has confirmed that Novak Djokovic has not received a medical exemption to participate in the Australian Open.

Key points:
  • Tennis Australia CEO Craig Tiley confirmed tennis players must be fully vaccinated to participate in the tournament
  • Players can apply for a medical exemption which is assessed by an independent panel
  • Tiley confirmed tennis players are subject to the same rules as any other person applying for an exemption

While Djokovic was this week named on the event's main entry list, this does not mean he will participate in the 2022 Australian Open.

Speaking on ABC's News Breakfast, Tiley said all players were named on the tournament's entry list, but it will be several weeks until it is confirmed if Djokovic is eligible to participate.

The nine-time men's Australian Open champion has so far refused to confirm his vaccination status, while his father claimed he would likely skip the tournament unless COVID-19 vaccination rules were relaxed.

Tiley, however, said the rules on vaccination were clear.

"No-one can play the Australian Open unless they are vaccinated — either a double-dose of the required vaccines, or a single dose of Johnson & Johnson, which is an approved vaccine," Tiley said.

"The only condition outside of being vaccinated that you could compete is if you received a medically approved exemption from Australian authorities."

Such an exemption, said Tiley, would need to meet ATAGI guidelines, and be approved by an independently appointed panel.

"There is an independent panel of medical specialists, and they see a blind copy of the medical exemption request," Tiley said.

"That goes to that expert panel, and they will make the call."

Pressed on whether tennis players were eligible for any kind of special exemption, Tiley said they were not.

"International tennis players have the exact same conditions as anyone coming to Victoria or [to] Australia.

"No benefit is provided to them under any condition [other than an approved medical exemption]."

Tiley also confirmed that, at present, no tennis players had received an exemption from being vaccinated.

"There has been no medical exemptions that have been granted this morning."

According to Tiley, about 95 per cent of the tennis community is now fully vaccinated.

"We are now in a position, [where] over six weeks ago, 50 per cent of tennis players globally were vaccinated, and now it is more than 95 per cent. That is a significant improvement."

The Australian Open starts in Melbourne on Monday, January 17, 2022.

I was ready to accept Djokovic as GOAT. After all this, I can’t and I won’t.

He could stop this tomorrow.

He won't get a shot. If he even gets the paper, it will probably be fake. That why he doesn't want to say if he's vaccinated and said in interviews that it's a private matter. He's trying to get a medical exemption for AO.

Believe me if he got a shot he'd reveal that a long time ago.

No, he has not, but Bartelby has. So, global TTW would like to know how Bartelby does it all without stopping.

Now that I think it more deeply, it totally makes sense. Though many people say no way, the ATP may look the other way or won’t move a finger to check validity if Nole presents a fake vaccination certificate. The ATP has experience in looking away when they need to, and it’s convenient to them. A fake certificate will make everyone happy, except for the fundamentalist sides.

Really? You sure? What if he gets negative effects from vaccination, just like Chardy did? He won't be playing then, even though he's been vaccinated.
he will probably get some bad fever and body aches and feel super weak after 1st and 2nd shot. you maybe right, he is such a scary cat , he may just stay in bed for next 3 months after that

He should get the Pfizer. The side effect is very mild. I played tennis the next morning after getting vaccinated.

It's ok. Only his fans thought he was special enough for such exemptions.
The rest of us understand he will be treated like anyone else here. The tennis bubble is only ever blown so far.

Exactly. Because at no other time in history has there ever been any kind of requirement for being allowed to work at a particular job.

It's not particular jobs and it's an optional medical procedure. Historically these measures have only been done for small pox. Covid is incomparable to small pox.

People can have all the liberty that they want. But liberty doesn’t come without consequences.

Seriously re-read what you wrote.

I hope you won't mind the source :)
I previously stated in a thread that the vaccine mandate is not a law (it's from executive branch, not legislative) and the thread got deleted. Now, in the link you posted, the Aussie government tried and succeeded to get it into the law. I feel sorry for the people of Australia, since this could be a pretext for the government (executive branch) to apply whatever they think it's good (every dictator thinks what they're doing are good, mind you) unless the court is to overturn the bill.

Of course, if Novak contracted asymptomatic Covid this week then he’d have the medical exemption to play….. just needs a positive PCR and a negative one a week or so later and he’s on his way.. and of course we would still never know on what basis he was playing tennis in Melbourne.

I'm fed up of hearing about this. Djokovic needs to say one way or the other. Is he going to confirm he is vaccinated and playing, or is he going to refuse to confirm vaccination and stay away. Get on with one or the other.
Or, maybe we can find another alternative   ;) :-D

Why is vaccination such a private matter? To even refer to it as intimate. Isn’t its intimacy a euphemism for anti-vaxxer?

Novak is no greater risk than a vaxed player. These are facts no matter how you spin it.

(AP) Why are so many vaccinated people getting COVID-19 lately?

A couple of factors are at play, starting with the emergence of the highly contagious omicron variant. Omicron is more likely to infect people, even if it doesn’t make them very sick.

People sometimes mistakenly think the COVID-19 vaccines will completely block infection, but experts say the shots are mainly designed to prevent severe illness. The vaccines are still doing their job on that front, particularly for people who’ve gotten boosters. But breakthrough infections appear more likely with omicron.

How else would he have explained the fact that he was about to board a plane and arrive in Australia within the day?

What’s so annoying to many is he went on and on about all this being a private matter, I won’t discuss, I won’t discuss. Then rubs it in our face saying he got an exemption. Should’ve kept quiet.

That is correct, recent numbers show that vaccinated people have 5 times more chance to catch omicron than unvaccinated ones, but the reason could simply be that there are 5 times more vaccinated people than unvaccinated. I think the chances are even. Nonetheless, the omicron seems to be on the level of a cold, not even a flu. All what you get is the sniffles for a few days.

So why all the hate for Novak. They think he is going to kill 10 million people. They won't deal in reality.

What else could be the reason other than there being more vaccinated people? How could being vaccinated all of a sudden make you more susceptible to infection? So it’s really disingenuous to say vaccinated people have a greater chance at infection

It has nothing to do with Novak in my opinion. The rules will be relaxed in the near future, I’m sure of that. But they aren’t yet.

They’re just numbers. You can interpret them any way you want. I haven’t read anywhere that vaccinated are more susceptible, to be honest, just that there are 5 times more. Maybe my wording wasn’t clear.

Could we, please, send this to the Canberra head office for considerations? I just worry Scott Morrison would chose the purchased vaccines over the findings. I mean what else could he do with all those jabs in the fridges?

Well, they need to be used before the expiry date ;) Maybe they should hold back on the next reorder.

u right..coz the ones who write the laws is not friendly with the head, last year that virus variant was stronger and everyone played without vaccine and there were no problems, now the variant is way weaker, but without vaccine you can't even get into the country, everything is illogical, real madness, that's all -is the same as having sex with or without a leaky condom, the effect will be the same, although in order not to get pregnant you need to use a durable condom, in this case the vaccine is a leaky condom, and a durable condom has not yet been invented, which means that the leaky condom (the current vaccine) doesn't matter de facto

Out of curiosity, do you have any credible medical sources to back up that statement?

Last year the vaccine wasn't available yet. This year Australia has tens of thousands cases daily and also more deaths reported, and now the vaccine is widely available, so it makes sense to get everyone vaccinated. We don't want to overwhelm and cripple the already strained hospital system. Health and safety first.

Reading that, I have a hard time to tell whether you are serious or sarcastic there. Are you also vaccinated? There are "more deaths reported"!

Morrison's got fridges loaded with purchased vaccines that'll expire soon and you want such sources? Then, when the vaccines came out, do you know how much money had to be spent on the research and then production of all those jabs and boosters too? People have to get paid, losses covered and resources justified. Who do you think those experts work for?

Anyhow, I don't think Australia's the only nation stocked up with the inoculation options. What I think that some countries, their leaderships and media are more reasonable than others. What do you think the Aussie land is like?
