Crazy Day For The US Open

Legend
Tsitsipas OUT. Taken out by Rublev, who recently beat Federer in Cincy. Rublev should be able to win against Simon as well. We could see an interesting 3rd round match between Kyrgios and Rublev.

Tsonga OUT in 5.

Khacanov taken OUT by Pospisil.

Thiem OUT. Sonego should have an easy path to the round of 16, where he'll face Monfils.

Bautista Agut OUT. Kyrgios/Rublev are gonna have an easy round of 16 match against Berrettini likely.

Felix taken OUT by fellow Canadian Shapovalov.

Zverev nearly lost too. Survived in 5 sets.

I wouldn't call Tsonga losing in the first round CRAZY... he's well on his way out. Same goes for FAA. Not crazy that he lost, but crazy how easy it was for Shapo

Tsonga's still got game - been unlucky at Slams though so far (reached 3rd round in Wimbledon, lost to Nadal, lost to Nishikori at RG, and Djokovic at AO)

obviously today wasn't unlucky, just bad play

It's easy enough for them to overlook you little man. Time to saddle up and save tennis.

You forgot to mention that they were OUT before Nadl even hit a single ball. Nadl too stronk. ;)

It seems the half where Fed is not in, always opens up in slams. sigh
High quality tennis players have become a rarity. Not sure if it is the generations attitudes, popularity, or the courts, but there is no longer any draw that is hard.

Even for Fed, if he does not reach the SF, it is on him, not his draw. Consistency in tennis is atrocious outside the big 3.

More like "crazy how predictable this is."

Tsitsipas has been an empty shell of a player since letting match point fly by him vs Stan at RG. Thiem is sick and just lost first round at Wimbledon. Khachanov has been awful all year (22-19) and his ranking only propped up by those 1,000 Paris points. Zverev always turns routine week 1 wins into 5 set nail-biters.

The only actual surprise imo is Shapo locking down such an easy win.

Tsits: overrated because we needed to replace Zverev

Thiem: once again terrible scheduling and just a ball basher

Khachanov: once a ball basher, always a ball basher

Zverev: 5 setter bore fest whether he wins or loses... and he will lose

Shapo: no tennis brain

FAA: robot with no weapons

And I am Canadian...

I'm not even a real Tsitsipas fan and I can't get over how disappointed I am in him. He's the first NextGen guy I actually got fooled by and thought could be different due to his play style and performance under pressure. I never bought in on any of the others.

Your lewberries will be served soon and you will have the chance to acquaint yourself with the stronk era and the ever improving tour.

Nadals draw opened up big time. Unreal.
This era is one of the biggest karma things I ever saw. When Fed was winning all in "those times" his fans was in heaven... now just blabbering about weak era...

And funniest thing is that Fed was top 3 all this years and couldn't win a slam in this weak era without someone else beat Novak for him... For more than 7 years.... Real goat...

And if top 3 player couldn't do that why his fans expect next gen who are top 10 players to do that? Fed do your ****n job, you can play 6 set final, you can run marathon, you are goat, what is a problem?

Let's not act like most Djoker fans don't rip the 04-07 years every time they can. Both players played and won in weak eras. But we are going on what? 4+ years with no end in sight?

Forget the GOAT nonsense race, forget the big 3. Don't you want some quality tennis after they are gone? There is nothing in the pipeline that says tennis will ever be the same quality it once was.

Slam finals against ATGs: Djokovic 80%, Federer 58.1%.

Djoko needs some more Baghdatis and Philippoussis in his career.

Hope he get many, many more. Tennis will survive weak period, it survived first 7 years in 2000's, and Fed fans will see that weak oponents do help in racking slams, they needed this badly to weak up... All Bagdadises, RodDick's, Hewitt's, and Gonzales's of the world are laughing at Fed right now.... Payback, it was time...

to the mods: I just realized that perhaps this could be in pro match results, this is more of a general post rather than having details about any specific match, so wasn't sure if it was a good fit for that other section

if you feel it should be there, feel free to move, and I'll be more careful next time

While that is big, Djoker does have one against Anderson.

But think about this, Feds first time beating an ATG at a slam was 18 years ago, and he did it this year too. Kind of puts into perspective he can do it in any era, and that he is not even in Djoker generation considering Djoker would not beat an ATG for 7 years later...

Something was not right with tsipitas even at the french, he was talking to himself after every point, constantly agitated & fidgety. Such things not a champion do make. His game is still far ahead of zverev imo, but he need to almost reinvest his on court deportment.

if Berrettini is in form, it's not an easy match.

It's the USO what did you expect? :-D

Nadal to beat Djokovic in 4 in the final after Djokovic has to go through 5 set war in the SF for the 3rd time ;)

Nadal has everything set up for him. No Khacha in QFs, no Thiem (although he has sucked lately but inform Thiem is a huge threat) but more importantly no Fedovic till the final.

Cilic could be his toughest test in the 4th round.
