CRITICIZE MY MATCHPLAY

Please criticize my overall game, I'm especially interested in what I could have done better to win some extrapoints since I was pretty close to the finish line, but anything that can help me improve in the long term is welcome!

the good - the fh swing path seems ok;
the bad - footwork, bh, serve, and not much of a net game.

recommend to have more aggressive split step, and get ready to fire the fh when the ball touches the court on your side. get this fixed, then we can work on other things individually.... likely in the order of

volleys - the lowest hanging fruit, most 3.0/3.5 will see vast improvement over short time;
bh - the 1hbh will need a major rework, this will take months
serve - no kinetic chain, this will likely take months.

I'm the guy without the hat btw.
oh lol you are the hat...

well, give my previous post to your partner... I can help you both... actually you will need at least 1 partner who improves with you, otherwise you run out of partners quickly.

for you -

the lowest hanging fruit will still be volleys - I can fix most 3.0/3.5 volleys very quickly.... then of course the fh first... right now it's all arms.

does this mean you beat MEP?

Very nice game, Daniel (y)
One thing I observed is that you hit too many balls above your shoulder height. Not that easy to fix. I spent hours with the coach for high contact ground strokes. He didn’t want me to let the ball jump above shoulder at contact point. Tip: a higher take back as soon as you notice it will be a high bouncing ball.
I guess fitness, leg intensity, better positioning would be other things to improve to increase your level.

I understand.
I'll improve the higher takeback.
Also shouldn't I be going back? Trying to wait for the ball come down?

That’s a defensive option. My coach told me that it’s one of the crucial skills to develop to hit the ball on the rise but at shoulder height. If you ask why not lower on the rise then, he said the ball is faster there hence harder to hit cleanly. Btw this is a situation where fade works very well.

Something like this

Something like this

Man, thanks, I hadn't thought of that. Next time I will include it into my repertoire!

1. Serving from a doubles position in singles
2. Good positioning once the point starts
3. I'm not sure a split step will help that much, but maybe stay back a little on serves, the serve seems to catch you by surprise
4. Is serving hurting you so badly you need to make a sound like a dying animal? If not, tone it down a bit
5. I take the positioning back a bit, what was going on at 1:45, there was little indication based on his shoulders and body that he was going wide, maybe don't guess until you have a greater grasp of reading opponents
6. Aim more for the baseline than the service line on groundies
7. you have success hitting deep and coming to the net, but if you hit the service line and come in you got passed

to win extra points, it's easier to get rid of errors than to learn to blast winners.
if you can commit to not hitting the ball in the net and not hitting the ball wide, you may find yourself getting a few extra points.
Perhaps two of those errors could be considered "forced" or the result of a bad. bounce.

I like how you move towards the net looking to end the point. Your volleying is pretty sounds.

What I don't like are your short balls. You're well built and should be generating more power & depth. Prepare earlier and maybe play with a heavier frame.

Will do.
Can adding height in my shots help me with the depth?

yes, if you fix this, short ball issue, you are going to improve immediately.
