Critique my service Motion.....

*breaksracquet

Semi-Pro
I am a 3.5+ player looking for more consitency in both my serves and groundstrokes. I have some video (taken from my phone by my wife) of me serving. Hopefully I can get a little feedback. You will see that many of my misses take dives right into the net (and I blast one really long at the last seconds of one video. The ones that did make it over tended to be in, maybe one or two misses just long. Again, looking for more consistency. I am hoping for more videos involving my backhand and forehand too.

hopefully these videos will load.... thanks for looking!!

Well, now that my neck hurts... ;-)

You have a good overall motion, but you have a lot of moving parts (the delayed pinpoint reminded me a bit of Murray's motion) and your toss is inconsistent. Work on your toss and you shouldn't have too much problem with consistency.

Good luck!

Sorry, but I closed out of that video after three seconds. Can't watch a sideways video. Gives me a headache to even try.

even a sucky server like me can tell your toss is too far behind.

Thank you and noted that my toss is inconsistent. To both Dozu and Jonny, how far does my toss need to be into the court, or does that even matter?

one is shot from behind too. Sorry I can't get those John Woo angles that youre so used to....

how can you stand up at that angle without falling over?

How do you get to Carnegie Hall? Practice, practice, practice....:)

Good serve.

Thanks.

I'm getting a headache from watching the sideways video too. I can't watch anymore or I would provide feedback.

I don't think it's an unreasonable request to view a video the right side up.

I don't think there is an issue with the shooting of it, I just think it needs to be rotated during post processing? I don't have video function on my phone .

OH ****!!! i'm sorry to everyone that had to look at my stinkin video, seriously. I'm on my way home now to change the angle to make it right side up. I apologize again. I did all of this from work and I was unable to actually view the video (site blockers for video streaming). Again, I am sorry and I will change it so that it won't hurt anyones eyes (hopefully my serve is not an eyesore either).

Ditto. Improving the position and consistency of your toss will quickly take your serve to the next level.
Your toss would land ~1/2 feet past the baseline at the moment. You do a good job bowing your body and shifting into the court so perhaps try tossing about a foot into the court and see where that takes you. If you're struggling to make contact or hitting everything into to the net, then pull the toss back a bit.
The service motion is good; try to keep your shoulder and hitting arm completely loose.

On the toss: I don't think it's written in stone, but you're hitting every serve with the toss over your head, and I find it hard to believe that you can add pace to that toss location without the ball hitting the baseline. It's better than tossing 5 feet into the court and pancaking it as flat as you can though. Maybe bring it out a foot or so into the court. Aim for reasonable pace with plenty of spin, the serve that will win your matches. You should find a good spot through a little experimentation.

Also be aware of where the ball is placed relative to your body positioning. Didn't pick anything up from the sideways serve, but just be aware that the more over or behind your head the toss is, typically the more stress you put on your shoulder and acceleration through contact becomes difficult. Personally I was amazed at how much more racquet head speed I had when I moved my toss more to the right.

Just some things to think about. Your motion is decent.

Thank you again for everyone's help. Unfortunately, it appears that both youtube and photobucket don't have editing software to bring the video right side up. I apologize to everyone for this. Thank you again for the toss comments. I will get right on this!!

Looked good when camera was behind but what happened in the video om the side I heard a lot of net serves. Did you change your position more away from the baseline- because I thought on some of the serves from behind u may have foot faulted. Your serve is good- timing load hip out in front good stuff

oh and congratulations!!!!
