Crowds at the slams

1 AO (Aussies are the greatest sports fans I know--enthusiastic but fair)
2 Wimbledon (when everything is said and done, a magical place)
3 (tied) French and US Open -- for some reason the Paris and NY crowds are just a tad obnoxious

i agree. the crows at AO and W knows how to be quiet when a player is serving whilst you here all this yelling at the us open. Nevertheless if i was granted the chance to go to a grandslam i would definately pick us open or W.

Comparing behaviors of peoples from different cultures is a little futile and pointless. Lick your knife and fork clean in New York and your host will be flattered. Lick your chopsticks clean in Tokyo and your host will think you're very rude. Different cultures, different standards. Anyone who's read a Hardy or Austen novel knows the famous emotional reserve of the British people leads to crowds at Wimbledon that are almost insufferably polite. Cheering wildly is a sign of respect and affection in the US, so much so that WTT crowds are encouraged over loudspeakers to cheer while the point is still going on!! Different cultures, different standards. Cheering at the USO may spill over to the moment that the server is ready to serve, but that's enthusiasm, not "obnoxious." I've gone to the USO for decades and have never seen behavior that I considered odious.

Good for you. I have been to all slams and a regular visitor to USO.
I am against comparing crowds but at the same time my experience at USO is probably the worst of all slams ---save for the travel time i need to get to the stadium.

I like the USO crowd, they make the atmosphere more exciting and electric. AO is next followed by Wimby. FO just sucks

1. Wimbledon - classy and knowledgable
2. AO - classy and knowledgable

3. USO - doesn't deserve as bad a reputation it presently has (lingering memories from the 70's and early 80's)

4. RG - boorish, arrogant, and obnoxious

I'm so glad we have YET ANOTHER thread on this topic. You've been a member for over a year and don't know how to use the search function yet?

Always a pleasure, buddy.

No, I cover my head in shame. Mmaybe that's because I post here only occasionally, rather than using the forum as substitute for a social life.
Or a substitute for doing real work at work like me. :)

I like the French crowds most.
They don't only acknowledge abitily and achievement but character, too.
