Berdych's perf vs fed at Miami makes me pause. If you had asked me after AO and before Miami, I'd say fed would take this easily.

This. There's no doubt that Berd will try to use Miami as a statement match and try to leverage its boost to his confidence as much as possible. Plus he's beaten Fed here on the big stage before, just not for quite some time.

If he swings for the fences and makes his shots, he'll have a legit chance. But his margin for sub-stellar play will be very small.

oh, you mean the practice match ? zzzz.

roddick beat federer at an exho on Kooyong in 2007 and we saw what happened at the AO :D

But you have to look at current Berdych. He's no Roddick. He has the eye of the tiger right now. He will use all his power to not be denied this time.

basically they've both been broken 3 times. not very different from raonic. fed should be able to get one break per set. and if need be, tough out a TB or two.

I just look at their recent history and I'm not worried.

What worries me is the threat of Cilic looming in the final. I just hope Sam the Destroyer can pull another miracle out there.
I don't like to look past any opponent and Tomas can be dangerous on any given day. But if I'm being perfectly honest cilic is the one that worries me now. Would much prefer Murray to cilic tbh. Either way I do believe Fed can and will win it from here

ia, berdych will be tough and I am kind of nervous about that match tbh. however, cilic is the one I'm definitely eyeing right now. if he meets fed, i'm sure he definitely wants to make a statement as he probably should have won that match last year.

He will be coming with a vengeance and fullfill his untapped potential. Only a Trump Wall can stop him from reaching ultimate glory. Or Cilic maybe.

I think he should beat cilic too. Beat him last year while injured. And we just saw what happened to Milos..either way he needs two more wins

i'm being such a debbie downer obviously, but all i keep thinking is USO 2014 and how it looked like it was fed's for the taking.

USO14 is where Monfils did the damage to Federer & he was up two sets to love eventually losing 4-6, 3-6, 6-4, 7-5, 6-2 (holding 2 match points over Federer in the 10th game of the fourth) so Federer was a little fatigued for his match vs Cilic there with an unfortunate case of Monfils showing up to play the match of his life the one time Federer had his best opportunity (pot luck or lack thereof).

In this case i do agree with you & still feel Cilic is the biggest threat with Cilic having the strongest ground game out of himself & Querrey but all we have to do is to look back to last year where Federer beat Cilic whilst not being @ 100% . & taking into account this will be a first Wimbledon Final for Cilic (it's even a first Wimbledon Semi-Final for him) & Cilic is known for not being being the strongest in terms of mentality out on court.

Furthermore , Federer is 100% healthy here (granted he is 35) but skipping the European Clay Court swing was his way to prepare for a tough Wimbledon (with no 'regrets'), coupled with the fact that Federer has won in straight-sets from his Halle first round up until now which is 10 consecutive Grass Court matches combined with Cilic coming off a 5-Set Match vs Muller & Querrey coming off 3 consecutive 5-Set matches . So basically this is the first time since USO14 where Federer will be Big-4 Free whilst being @ 100% & in top form since ... Hmmm i think it would have been USO 2009 vs Del-Potro?. Okay not good memories there either , but 2009 Del-Potro doesn't exist here thankfully. & Federer played a flat final that day as i watched that match live & Federer really should have won that match & lost his FO Semi that year to Del-Potro but we all know that we'd take that 1-1 split for that year hands down. So to backtrack here i cannot see Federer putting in a sub-par performance anywhere here as he did in the USO-09 Final.

With all that being said Cilic is the final remaining threat , but it's a Grand Slam Final. Whomever makes it there is always going to be a contender in any case. I was fearful that Federer may have been stuck with Cilic in another Quarter final (I'd booked Cilic as a worst-Case-Scenario QF) this year with 2 more big matches to come afterwards , but in a Slam Final i'd take Cilic with a Djokovic free Semi-Final. We could not have asked for anything more now apart from a win for Querrey in all honesty.

It's now time for Federer to finally join Djokovic & Nadal as being sole #1's in Title Leaders in their 'Pet-Slams' . Then USO17 is next on the list ... #PetSlam#2 - #Project20 ;)

I'm going to pick Federer in 4 sets, based on the fact that Berdych already beat Fed on grass before and their last match was a tight one. I fully expect Cilic to await Federer in the final, so I just hope this doesn't go the distance, which would hurt Federer's chances.
One thing I'd like to say though, is if Berdych beats Federer tomorrow, I hope he takes this all the way and wins the championship. I always thought he was an underachiever, so winning 1 slam after all these years would be nice to see.

Fed in 3, with maybe only one going to a breaker.
Fed must be absolutely salivating at the thought of facing the hard and relatively flat ball of Commandant Berdman.
Could be another AO type of beatdown we're gonna see here.

Here is something slightly surprising. Turns out that through 5 matches, in Wimbledon 2017 Federer has:
  • Put together better numbers than the first 5 matches of any of his championship runs
  • Done so against higher ranked opposition
This is truly staggering, at age ~36

Other years 5 or 7 matches? That makes a difference.
