Current and future college players in ATP events

This week's ATP Top 200 has no one under 20 years of age, but over 50 players that are over 30. I bet a lot of college coaches are pouncing on that fact (already saw Manny Diaz tweet this).

I just got home from Godfrey where I watched a few college players win pretty easily as well as a few fun close matches, the 2nd venue for qualifying was a local high school where the courts looked less than pro circuit level!

I should be in Godfrey late next week watching some matches, hopefully will have some college players in the draw still.

With the exception of the one court that had the water mildew spot behind the baseline, court 4, I thought the courts were OK. I did not hit on them. One the first day they did not use that court in the morning. The venue at Lewis & Clark is very nice for JUCO. I thought the court bounce was odd, maybe uneven in spots. It was a cushioned surface had almost a hollow feel to it. I did not think they needed to use the High School for qualifying, not sure why they did.

James ward hung a bagel and a breadstick on Krueger ( 0 & 1) at the Lexington challenger. Not an encouraging result for someone who really could've benefitted from atleast a year or two in college.

True, only if the player is short sighted and focusing on results and not focused on improving and learning. While the score appears bad there could be circumstances going on we are unaware of. Its just one match. Overall his summer appears to be going well.

James Ward has been the object of much fun on these boards but he has a ton of talent, not surprising he zones occasionally and wins big. At Godfrey Ronnie Schneider had another win and Evan King took out the 2 seed 0 and 4.

Regardless, Ward can play. I realize many think that guys not at the ATP level are not very good. That's laughable, just go play them to find out. My point is that any player who turns pro regardless of timing, is highly unlikely to regret that decision based on one match. Given Krueger's progression, this one match is hardly an indicator of a good or bad decision to go pro.

My point was more that Ward has largely underperformed to date and could go off on many pros. Krueger should not dwell on this result.

I'm with you. I've given too much time to the comment. These types of comment are made here often.

BTW. DeZutter (Memphis) and Vliegan (ECU) in the doubles finals in Belgium..

The Daniil Proskura who plays for Alabama is from Estonia. Not sure what tournament you are referring to. The ITF site has him incorrectly listed as being from Armenia.

That's what I was referring too. I saw him listed as ARM while I knew he was from Estonia. Sometimes guys play in the ATP listed as a different country. I guess this was just a mistake.

It isn't working for me

Duke's Bruno Semenzato 1 match away from qualifying in the Sao Paulo Challenger. A host of Virginia Tech players from Sao Paulo also in action as Mauricio Antun knocked off teammate Rafael Ribas before falling in the 2nd round while Lucas Oliveira was knocked out in the 1st round.

Both Blaz Rola and Emilio Gomez in the main draw in Sao Paulo. Gomez won a doubles title last week in Medellin

Several recent college grads from this past year in action as well - Live Scoring Link - they've had rain up there so nothing has got started yet.

Qualies had a few notable results: Peter Kobelt lost in straights to Harrison Adams, Ryan Shane took out TCU #1 Nick Chappel in straights (Chappel had only dropped 2 games in the previous 2 matches), Ghasya (which I'm pretty sure is Gosea) took out Santa Clara #1 John Lamble in 3 which was after Lamble handed former Illini Bruno Abdelnour a bagel and a breadstick, Dane Webb only dropped 12 games in 3 matches including a double bagel win over Danny Riggs in the final round. Riggs was a 2011 Blue Chip that spent a year at Cornell before leaving for greener pastures. Strong Kirchheimer (Northwestern Recruit) took out UNC's Brett Clark in straights.

W vs DE VROOME, Max (NED) 4-6 7-5 6-2
W vs UDOMCHOKE, Danai (THA) 7-5 6-3

Big win today for Emilio Gomez knocking off world #101 Thiemo De Bakker 7-6 4-6 7-6 in the 2nd round in Rio de Janeiro. De Bakker was the guy who beat Isner at Wimby a few years ago in the round after his 70-68 win over Mahut

Blaz Rola keeps on rolling along as well with another win over a top 150 opponent today in Rio. He'll definitely move inside the top 250 after this week.

Emilio Gomez into the semis in Rio with a 7-6 6-4 win over #216. He will at least jump 80 spots in the rankings from #433 to around #352 with his semifinal showing. If he makes the finals he'll move to around #320 and if he wins the whole thing he'll move up to roughly #275.

Blaz Rola trying to one up himself today against Emilio Gomez in the Rio Challenger semifinal. After being Gomez 6-1 6-0 in the NCAA Team Tournament he leads today 6-0 1-0

UCLA recruit Mackenzie McDonald got a wild card into qualies at Cincinnati and trails Nicolas Mahut 5-2 in the 1st set
