Current favourites to win the Roland Garros?

At the moment who do you think has the best chances to win Roland Garros 2019?

I'd say

1. Rafael Nadal
2. Novak Djokovic
3. Dominic Thiem
4. Roger Federer
5. Alexander Zverev
6. Diego Schwartzman
7. Stefanos Tsitsipas
8. Juan Martin dél Potro
9. Marco Cecchinato
10. Gaël Monfils

Monfils is there because he has playing incredible this season, and I believe the slam he would want to win the most is Roland Garros, so a little chance. Cecchinato has already won a clay tournament this year, and has showed how much better a tennis player he is on clay. Federer, unlike a lot other better clay players, believes he can win a Grand Slam, and is a dangerous candidate.

No worse than putting Roger at 4.

Both guys are only half the player that is required to win RG. Fed has all the mentality toughness, but not the physicality. Sascha has all the physicality, but none of the mental strength. They should join up and play the doubles tournament.

I'm just saying, anytime Zverev is put in a top 5 list when slams are concerned, it means we're sinking

Goffin will be the surprise finalist. Last year he was stopped by peaking Checcinatos.

Man, speaking of Goffin, he was sooo unlucky 2-3 yrs ago at RG when he tripped over that tarp and messed up his ankle. I remember that he played well at the time. RG staff, move the tarps to the 'side' of the courts, not the far end. Line officials already sit by the side, and tarps can be put behind their chairs. Players are more likely to use the back of the court than the sides of the court to retrieve, especially lobs.
Terrible decision.

1. Nadal

I’m serious. Anyone else winning at RG would be considered a major shock. I mean, people can predict all sorts of **** and this might be one of the THREE years it sticks, but the favourite (if even half fit) is Nadal. His ridiculous, one of a kind record demands it.

The man is 86-2 there. 86-2. Won it 11 times in 14 attempts. Crazy.

The only other guy i’ll mention is Djokovic. If Nadal doesn’t win it, he will. There is no one else.

Never forget that these guys are in their thirties.

One would have to be very bold to bet against Nadal, given his record at RG.

Then, Thiem has all of the attributes to win the thing, too. His time might have come.

Dark horse: Felix AA. We're overdue a prodigy winning a slam in his teens, and the kid can definitely play on clay, judging by his results in Brazil earlier this year.

Solid list. I think I'd have the same top 5. I'd probably throw Stan and FAA in there below that. Maybe take out Schwartzman (haven't been watching him much) and Monfils.

Edit: Throw Kyrgios in the 11 spot. Just cuz.

To be honest, I genuinely don't see anyone outside of Djokovic, Nadal and Thiem taking it. Nadal is the favourite and deservedly so. Djokovic, whatever form he's been in of late, is still the winner of the last 3 slams and the most recent non-Nadal RG champion, so he's next. Thiem seems to be consistent but comes up short in the finals. Perhaps, the IW win will help his mental strength to get him over the line. I'd include Zverev in this as he's clearly decent on clay, however, he's not shown any evidence that he can make a deep slam run yet.

You have guys like Federer, Wawrinka and Del Potro who may potentially go deep but I really don't see winning it or even making the final. The NextGen guys don't really seem to have the stuff to win slams just yet so I doubt we'll see them in the final either.

I could well be wrong, but given the last 9 slams have been won by the Big 3, its not unreasonable to think the pattern will continue here, save for a possible Thiem win

I completely agree.

Well, yeah and I know the end will come but not yet. Rafa won so easily last year. I mean, really easily. Don’t think enough has changed in a year. Nadal will be ready, he’s actually looked pretty good off clay this last year (at slams anyway.)

Nah, he’s winning FO...
I agree he’s heavy favorite if healthy. But 2009??!!

Nadal is taking it, unless Djokovic goats again. With the two of them being the top 2 seeds, I think that's easy to assume it will be the final.

RG is the one place that he may still have a chance.
Clay requires too much running. The speed & endurance costs outweigh the benefits that the surface has on his groundstrokes.

I think the USO is still his best option these days. Slow enough for him to load up on his shots, but not too slow that he has to run every point.

FAA over Fed?
What are FAA’s clay credentials? Or Slam tournament credentials, if you wish?
Clay credentials - a bunch of challengers at like 16, and a 250 final. Slam credentials - none. He's still potential, but the biggest prospect in a long time. Say a 1% chance, still a chance.

Slap bang on my view.

And he should not choke if he puts himself in a position.

I would alter that list by putting Djokovic at 3 - he's playing poorly recently and his fitness is looking suspect. I think anyone who is peaking for this tournament could achieve an upset. I would also move Federer out of the top 5. Nadal stays at #1, and Thiem moves to #2.

Would love to see my boo bear in the finals :)

Of course, a lit can change in the next 7 weeks, but I'd move Cecchinato (for now) even higher. Although he's the least accomplished of the 10, he demolished Diego in the Buenos Aires (early clay) final, and is coming off a great RG performance last year. I'd put him right after Fed.

While hoping that Delpo will be healthy, I'd replace him on this list with Stan.

Im hoping for a Djokodal final where Rafa lays a 2008 like wrecking on the Mummy and sends hitman into vacation :p

Now that's the fighting spirit! No doubt your boy is the King and fav, but we'll see who kicks who's @$$ at ClayMania. Possible castration of the evil Minotaur at the hands of Earth's Mightiest to inaugurate the new stadium. :)
