Yeah who cares, as long as Federer won - any mug he played would be a good mug.

I know right? Unseeded mugs in the semi are mugs but unseeded mugs in the final are stronk!
That's the point, unseeded players are better than seeded players if they are playing better. Pretty simple. Unranked Karatsev played like an unseeded player in the SF, and so did Med.

Man, recency bias on these boards is really strong. People were hailing medvedev as the next tennis god who is going to destroy Djokovic in the AO final and now he is worse than baghdatis. The guy had one off match against one of the goat candidates in the final of his favourite tournament. His 20 match winning streak is still impressive, especially with 11 top 10 wins.
Well, people are less forgiving when during this streak he couldn't even make a match close against a dude in his mid 30's. Don't care that he is a GOAT. He is not a GOAT at his peak.

And besides, Baghdatis himself reached his final beating 3 top 10 players en route. Still no one cares about that and call him a weak opponent by default. So why should Meddy get a different treatment?

To be fair, calling djokovic, nadal and federer "dudes in their mid 30s" is understating how good they are. I mean both federer and nadal won a slam without dropping a set in their mid 30s. I'm not trying to say who had better competition between djoko and fed (not trying to push any agendas or whatever), i just think that people are ****ting on medvedev for not being perfect. I mean, imagine you go on a run where you beat basically everyone in some of the biggest tournaments in tennis (so one of the best runs in the past 20 years barring the big 3) and then you underperform against australian open goat in the final of the AO(who has never lost an AO final and was in very good form). Suddenly people start saying you're a mug etc. I think he should have given a stronger fight but his streak had to end sometimes. Honestly, he gave a better fight than djokovic at rg 2020 or nadal at ao 2019.

I guess Ruud is legit. I just disagreed big time with someone who said he might be a future top five. Sorry, whoever that was.

Well not like the 2 you mentioned at the end of your post raised the bar very high so doing even slightly better than those 2 wasn't difficult.

I'm just tired off all these "they're the GOATS, they're too good" talks. Delpo, Murray, Stan and Safin were able to beat these GOATS in their primes to win slams, so how hard can it be to even make it close when they're much older and you are in your mid 20's?

Medvedev is actually extremely lucky that he doesn't have to play them at their best so not even making that AO final close is pretty damning on his part.

This is absolutely true. The lack of competition before the SF is what made Meds look so confident when he was never tested. Gettting to the SF's/F's is going to be pretty routine for Meds.

Meds also benefits from having a non-existent next gen at the moment.

Yeah, that's my point, i think nadal and djokovic should be criticised much more for their finals than medvedev should be for his. And all the players you mentioned have won maybe 2 matches against the big 3 in slams in their entire careers(maybe murray won 3?) when the big 3 were playing well.
Also, how hard it is to make a close match against nadal in the final of Rg, djokovic in the final of Ao or federer in the final of wimbledon? I would say very hard. Also djokovic is older and isn't as good as 6 years ago but he compensated for that with a much better serve. His movement in his mid 30s is still better than movement from 90% of guys in their mid 20s from any era. His return was also godlike in the match. Another thing is experience. This is medvedev's second gs final. He played the first one pretty well and the second one badly after the first set. He has time imo.

Never happened. Did not earn them with play. Once again you are at it with hypotheticals just like him winning WC20.
I came to terms with the fact that Djoker was not credited for those 22 weeks. I admit that is right, because tennis was not played during the suspension. Despite this hurdle, Serbinator will breaks Fed's record. But what I don't like is that the same 22 weeks have counted into doping penalties. What's the point of ban of participation at tournaments if no tournaments are played? Doping penalties were to be frozen, as were the rankings.

Bolded: I mean, isn't that what makes the difference between guys back then and guys today?

It's generally hard to make finals or big slam matches close against these guys at their pet slams, but it should be easier when they are older and years past their physical primes. The fact that it's not is not a good look on today's guys.

Rublev? lol, ok. Someone who has never reached an SF at an ATP 1000 event is now a worthy test.

All I see is standards being lowered to showcase how great these guys are.
