Im considering getting a custom paint job done on a racket and wondering what others have payed or would be willing to pay for a professional quality job ? Please feel free to offer any advice or information you may have regarding custom paint job services or prices.

Note1: Incase its not clear, this assumes you supply the racket and send it to the painter
Note2: Custom paintjob means you can specify the color scheme and any special graphics or text

Thanks,
Joe

actually in all honesty i wouldnt spend even 50bucks on a paintjob, for me itd be 20bucks or so, but ill vote anyway

I'd get new strings, or even new apparel, or string savers, or anything else than a paintjob for 50 .

Let me try to put this in perspective ... If you have a special or classic car you really like, you may like to get a "cherry" paint job ... Sure many practical drivers will say why not buy some nice tires or a better stereo .. Ok now hopefully some prospective custom paint job posters will post :)

Id say go for it! if you ahve some crappy old looking pog you wont to PIMP up than spend it. i tihnk if i loved it enough i would do it. Just Give the pog a KBlade Team PJ!

I don't think you will get quite the response from this board as you may hope just for a couple of reasons.

Most people here are older, they don't care how a stick looks they care more about how H.L. flex ect.

Most people here are purest, not so much fans of sticks such as the pure drive and what not. Think how much respect is paid to the POG, Prostaff, and Prestige!

People here are generally 4.0 plus people at that level care less and less about looks it seems. (3.0 ladies at clubs always tend to dress really well while 5.5 men wear a t shirt they got for free and shorts)

I do think this is a really go idea though! I wouldn’t personally do it but I think that a lot of Junior players would do it or high school kids. Heck the first time I got my racquet restrung (bandit oversize) I got it strung with all black syn.... my friends and I thought it was the sweetest thing ever.

Most people here are 3.5 and under, the majority of the ranks are hover between 18 and 20 somethings.

If you do, make sure you strip off the paint that is already there cause another layer of paint will add lots of weight to the frame and mess up the balance

I'd pay up to 70 per racket. Is this actually really possible? having your racket paintjob customized? I'd really like to do that. yeah would like to give my rds 001 2008 a new look. I mean I do like the paintjob as it is but I'm a graphicdesigner and I'd go nuts if I could design my own customized paintjob! really!!

so if anyone knows anything more about this TELL ME !!

So has anyone had their racquet custom painted (using spray can does not qualify)?

Would love to see the master piece. Please post some pics!

Are you serious people, there is an entire sticky on this subject with pics and detailed instructions on how to do it.

Hold on guys ... today I just got a Puma Davis Cup Competition for US$7 ...

The design's already in my head.

Once I finish, I'll post a few pics, and let's see how much you'll be willing to pay for the kind of PJ I'll be doing.

For lukenuke: I'm also a graphics guy, specializing in corporate/brand indentity. Also was a copywriter in an ad agency.

(Well, you may have to really hold on a long time as it's the rainy season here. Not much sun to help bake the paint ...)

I just buy old tech racquets that way i dont spend more than $100 on a racquet, so $50 is to much for a PJ, i say $20-30 is the max i will spend on a PJ.

Not everybody have the habilities it takes to paint a racquet, and watching pics wont tteach you how to paint propertly, it requieres a lot of practice to do a nice paint job, and to make the paint flawless.

But you can always learn, and almost everybody have their old cheap first racquet around to practice everything he wants before hi mess up with his $200 stick.

I paid $225 for two Head FXP Radicals supposedly custom made for Fabrice Santoro (apparently he left them to be strung with some guy in Germany but never returned for them). They are in fact NOT the normal off the rack Head FXP Radicals as the buttcap is all black, the string pattern isn't the same and flexpoint hole isn't even a hole - it's a painted divot. Furthermore, they are WAY more flexible than the original/actual frames. In short, they are obvious paint jobs. Nonetheless, they play quite well but I still use the Tecnifibre T-Fight 320 18X20. I'll try to get some pics of them up soon.

Take care and have a good weekend-

For me no way $50.I dont think the pj is that imprtant because there just going to get scratched anyway. So whats the point of spending an extra say $50

u can probably save a lot of money going to your local college and usually they have a technical section where they work on cars etc...to teach auto body work etc...(at least some do) and get the students to paint your racket. they might even do it for free.

I'd only get it done like that. For free

Seeing as a paint job would do absolutely nothing to increase my level of play or my enjoyment of the game, I'd not pay more than 37 cents for a paint job.

43 cents with a clear coat finish.

I have to agree. For $125 you could buy some useful stuff, like clothes, balls, string, etc... Why would you blow money on a paintjob?

I have done a few paintjobs and the process if very labor intensive. It came out looking pretty good and I am getting better at it. I am going to be doing a few this summer, with my new airbrush. I personally think that for a good paintjob the value would be $100+ because it is just so labor intensive.

paint job price

i do paint cars for living and have done several racquets .
here is one of them .

my advice is if you thinking about paying 50 or less you are betterto find a way to do it yourself.
if you find someone who cando your racquet with a good quality paint for less then 50 then he or she is doing for the love of the paint job and is moslikely loosing money on material. here are my thoughts:
if you buy used 2007 model that has scuffs and bumbs on it , you will probably pay around 60 bucks for it. have a design in mind. shipping cost plus paint job cost will get you somewhere around 150 - 170 bucks . you willhave brand new unique fresh paint job on a racquet that is your own.
all things consider.
feel free to let me know what you think - janslavik@hotmail.com

Earl Scheib used to do your whole car, any color for $29.95

Sure Scheib can do it cheap...
you'll definite see the quality they put into the work - paint fades, air pocket bubble or an orange peel on the paint job after 1 season.

Getting a customized pj is not for everyone similar to a car. Most owner would not worry about the paint as along as the car is running and the body is not rusted. But to some who wants more a little bit more personalize - the option is always there and available from guys who knows how to do it (professionally).

How about restoring an old classic racquet to its original state? - paint and logo/ decals.

Just like restoring cars to its original color.

Don't you think that would even be worth it?

There would be possible problems: where do you get the decals?
Paint swatches for the proper mix.
Would it be a copyright issue from the manufacturer?

yea, there's 1, but I still can't figure how to get started and where to buy the materials to begin with....

What happened to the Davis-Cup-Competition?

Just to put some perspective on this, have a look at what many car and motobike enthusiasts pay for thier custom painted helmets. Having your helmet painted is becoming very common in motorsport as is custom decals on bikes etc. Cost is likely to be prohibative for tennis players though... certainly based on comments so far !

Better to concern oneself with painting the lines on the court. I'd play with a "My Little Pony" racket if it helped me win matches.

id maybe pay 50 if it was new and i had others of it... i would pay like 15 though because i dont want one atm but it would be pretty cool...

I am one that really values how my racquet looks. I keep my frames in really good shape and it bothers me when they get scratched up too much. That said I would only pay maybe 30-50 at most. I would do it myself to keep the cost down too. Like others have said there is a whole sticky on how to do it. Not really that tough just time consuming.

Exactly.

Why would you want a paintjob anyway? I'd rather pay that money for someone to totally customize the racket for me, as in weighting it perfectly.
