Custom Two-Tone Tennis Balls

I'm a huge fan of these for practicing all kinds of spins. Nobody sells them where I live. Because of this, I'm thinking about mail ordering some. For example: "Penn Radical" balls. The thing is I like to mail order ONLY when necessary. So, I have been painting half of my practice tennis balls with red permanent markers. The problem is that this ink is far from permanent. It's really a mess. What else do others use to paint their tennis balls in this way? I've thought about trying out hair and/or textile dye, but haven't yet.

I can't say i've ever 'painted' tennis balls in the manner you describe; in fact i haven't used two-tone balls for about 8 years! That being said, the hair/textile dye might be a route to go, given that the intention behind these two dyes is to 'lock in' the colour. My only suggestion is that you give the balls a thorough rinse wash after you've dyed them, otherwise you're going to end up with gooey, sticky, messy tennis balls. Cheers.

That may, in fact, be a great solution, thanks! And, now that you mention it, I recall this old "myth" about putting highly colored textile, with tendency to bleed, in salty water for a while. Supposedly, it helps in locking in the colors. Don't see any harm in trying it.

I think the only thing more ridiculous than you painting your practice balls is the fact that I wasted 3 minutes reading about it...

You've posted many things that seem very ridiculous to me. So, I just guess we're even. Lol.

Fair enough - unrelated question, what the heck is that thing in your picture? I've never been able to figure that out...

Why are you painting your balls? You can buy two tone balls. Tretorn has a white/yellow two tone ball. Go to Garrison Sports Group.

That's just me when I want to intimidate my tennis oponents! Nah, it's just the cover of an album I like.

Yeah, I should, probably, be mail ordering them, instead of going through all that nonsense. Thanks.
