Cutting a Prince Phantom 100G LB down to 27.75, 27.50 or 27.25?

flex

Semi-Pro
There have not been much talk about the Prince Phantom 100G LB in stock form and I get 28" racquet is niche and appeal to a small sub group but has it is but has anyone taken it a step further and tried cutting it down?
Cutting it down to a 'more normal'/length say 27.75, 27.50 or 27.25 - so it's still extended but more wieldy

What length did you cut it down to and how does it play?

Head Size:100 in² / 645.16 cm²

Strung Weight:11.6oz / 329g

Swingweight:335
Stiffness:59
Beam Width:20.5mm / 18.5mm / 16.5mm

Be careful when you try that. I cut one down to 27.5 and I never could get the balance right. I tried adding weight to the hoop and the grip but it never felt right.

I really wouldn't do that. Get a regular length one and then add a buttcap extender. Tennis Spin on youtube just had a video on this and explained why it's a disaster and I agree.

I get it's very subjective but can you try to elaborate a bit about it not being "right"
Did it not flex? Or something else?

I would try it stock first just to see if you happen to like it but I personally cut one down to 27.5 and like it much better (may still end up selling it later because full poly doesn’t agree with me and these open patterns really seem to play best with it). I wouldn’t listen to tennis spin about this. If the specs are low enough to give room for customization, I don’t see why you couldn’t get any cut down xl frame playing nicely. Also for what it’s worth, I’ve tried the extension butt caps and unless you carefully chisel off part of the bottom of the foam handle first (not reversible), you’ll have a noticeable and bulky butt cap that never felt right to me.

I cut a 28 100 down to 27.5 3 years ago. I had to add some lead for it to feel right for me. Otherwise, I liked it. A friend of mine currently owns it.

I would not cut a racket down you can't easily be reversed back if you decide you don't like it. Get a spare putt cap ast cut the bottom out so the handle will slide through it. Slide the butt cap up 1/4 to 1" and tack it down. If you decide you don't like it but the original butt cap back on.
