Dabrowski cheated on her way to winning her first Women's Doubles Major title

In the QF against Townsend/Fernandez, Dabrowski clearly hit the net on a volley in the 3rd set. Somehow, no one noticed - not the umpire, not Townsend or Fernandez. They showed a slo-mo of it on TV, and Rennae Stubbs was commenting on it. But it wasn't in the highlights, comments about it are removed, even r/tennis mods remove videos of it. The sad thing is, she had a good chance of winning that match had she chosen to fess up to hitting the net. Guess she was desperate to clinch her first women's doubles title before she got too old, and tennis media are more concerned about appearances, even for a lower-viewership event.

Yea but this is US open professional tennis where title and $800,000 is on the line, i would done the same. especially in light of the fact that she's not a big name player and isn't getting any kind of big money from endorsements at all. so this is her Entire life and she did whatever needed to be done.

But still that doesn't make it right what she did............she won't be getting that Sportsmanship of the year award :-D :-D but she's getting $800,000 instead. is that better deal or what ????????:-D

Well isn't this what the umpire is for? Doesn't he make the call?
It's like a double bounce--if I had umpires I'm not going to call it on myself.
Prior to electronic line calling, there were plenty of times players saw a ball in that was called out, and they weren't volunteering to give the point away (some exceptions but not the rule).

I think it becomes cheating if her opponents asked her "Hey didn't you hit the net?" And she dishonestly said "No."
Was this on main court, because now they can video review too? This would've been a perfect time to do so. Townsend/Fernandez could've asked for it. Or if it was called against Dabrowski, she could've requested the vid in hopes of overturning.

In a match with officials, don't really see any cheating here.

In golf, if you "might" have "possibly" touched a grain of sand with your club as you entered the bunker, you are expected to hunt down a rules official immediately and beg them to assess you a 2 stroke penalty. If you don't and it is shown on replay that you did indeed touch a grain of sand, you'll never hear the end of it (and you'll be disqualified).

In basketball, you are expected to fall down as if you were just hit by a truck and writhe in pain to draw a foul, even though the guy didn't touch you. If you don't, you "aren't trying"

And everyone accepts both as "the way things must be" in both sports. Tennis is obviously more like golf in this respect.
