Daniil Medvedev - "I'm not hiding this, I don't like clay!"

Huge mistake by him to admit this and just as huge to have this mentality. What a waste. If he could adapt his game even a little he could have some great results on clay. Sad.
His style isn't well suited to clay, whether he says it or not. He says he's working on adapting his shots and even without it, he already made into clay SF once. My guess is he'll win clay tournaments here and there in his career. Maybe even go past R1 in FO one day?

I give Med props for his honesty, though in some ways he's giving his opponents an advantage by admitting he dislikes the clay. It might have been better to prevaricate and say, "though in the past I haven't much cared for clay, I'm ready to have a great clay season and challenge at the French Open." But his transparency is refreshing.

as if it is a secret that he doesn't like to play on clay

when he wants to, he can master it.
Remember his run to BCN final and the start of the final vs Thiem, before he got injured.
Or his MC run to semi-final.

But it looks like he really doesn't like to play on clay

Clay requires skill and the brains to construct a point. You would think megamind would have such brains. I guess it's rough when you can't just be a backboard camped behind the baseline.

or stamina to run like headless chicken and retrieve the ball back till your opponent makes a mistake, including a tactical mistake that allows the headless chicken to unload a massive forehand

He was stating what he planned to do to improve, wasn't he? I think we should give him some time to adjust on his own. He may come into his own and grow to enjoy the surface and its challenges, particularly as he wins more on the other surfaces.

I just think it’s a tactical mistake to admit he doesn’t like it. He’s a brutally tough player more than half the year. Opponents know that. But now, when they see him across the net on clay that same aura isn’t there (even if it was undeserved on clay) - instead they’re thinking “this dude doesn’t want to be here. I have a shot if I can hold on a little more”

as if it is a secret and nobody noticed the contrast in his results on clay vs HC

as far as I recall the stats published on atptour.com soon after one of the past RG editions, the most predominant rally length used to be 1 shot in 2019 if I am not mistaken.
well, there are boring matches also on clay... I preferred to watch Nadal running like crazy after every ball than see him steamrolling everyone, but it is what it is. I still enjoy the clay season much better than others.
