Daniil Medvedev will thwart Djokovic on Sunday

That’s all well at good but them stats about Djokovic are over his whole career and Medvedev is fresh plus has beat Djokovic plenty of times. Yes BO5 benefits Djokovic but you are playing it down like it’s going to be a dead cert. Djokovic will be favourite but it be a hard match
Best of 5 benefits the better player. Over the last several years, that has been Djokovic. But Sunday Bo5 benefits Med.

This is about as unbiased of an indictment of Vamos Ralph as you're gonna get, in case any of you think those of us calling him out are salty Djoker fans. Saying Zverev or Medvedev is gonna win isn't the issue.

**** Felix. It'll probably be 10 mins after.
Why does anybody need to be indicted? My predictions are actually very good most of the time. It upsets people because they are afraid their favorite might lose. My favorites aren't playing so they can't win or lose!

The three best players right now are Medvedev, Zverev and Djokovic - in that order as far as how they have played since Wimbledon - so any of these three can win.

I also find it weird when people say Med fitness being poor then also use the AO F. That was nothing to do with fitness it was a beat down due to Med being pooh.

I bet $50 on Medvedev to win tournament. I placed it before the semi. He had a good straight sets win. Save energy. Good form. joker playing the second match has to win 2. I hope Joker wins the tournament though. He deserves it.

There's a lot of cheap talk here. Put your money where your mouth is.

You say true and yes he did but was that due to fitness ? No it was due to playing two next gen players that even being 2 sets up didn’t really believe they could win while Djokovic didn’t believe he could lose.
Tsitsipas was 2-0 up then 50 mins later it was 2-1 with a double break in the 4th with the result being never in doubt

And playing better, the longer the match goes - as he has been all US Open - isn't a sign of a man who suffers from fatigue. It's a sign of a man who knows how to outlast, outgrind and outthink his opponents. In Roddick's words: First he takes their legs, then he takes their soul.
Djoker was sort of hobbling around with his trainer backstage.
What is going on?
:(

I might be playing it a tad down, but I'm with Mats Wilander here: The more I think about it, the more impossible it becomes for Djoko to lose this US Open.

On the other hand, you're playing his opponents up, which is natural, cause you're nervous as his fan. I'm not a fan of Djoko, Zverev or Medvedev (I prefer Medvedev to win out of the 3). The stats are over his career, yes, but his recent 5th record is phenomenal and he's playing two opponents who's never crossed the finish line in a slam and where one of them, Z, completely lost his game last year, when he had the chance and Medvedev got his ass wopped the last time he played Novak in a slam.

In other words, I have little faith in either of the "young" guns, but feel free to hype them up and believe they have a good/real chance. I just don't.

LOL Musetti literally broke down physically and couldn't even win a single point, that he stopped the play...and you're telling me it wasn't down to fitness

Musetti broke down, but otherwise exactly my point: No one believe they can actually win against Novak. That's half the match won already and whenever a match gets tight, Djoko has the mental (and physical) upper hand.

Yeah he did no doubt but even if he didn’t he wasn’t going to win. The fitness breakdown was the reason it was a blowout. All slam finals this year none of the players physically gave up just mentally they did

I agree with this 100% as I said all slam finals this year wasnt fitness it was mental. I find next gen overall level too be quite high but I’ve never seen a generation so mentally weak in the history of tennis.
Don’t get me wrong Djokovic mental strength is the best for me and if they lose to him so be it but there is no fight in them

You think Djoker is physically less fatigued, at this point, than the much younger Zverev.
have you seen how both of them move? Z is moving worse than the at the start already. So yes, I think aside from Thiem in top form, Djoko can outlast/outgrind (= be fresher in the 5th) any player in the current field

Djoker is grabbing his back!!

Djoker is famous for grabbing various body parts yet being the better mover throughout the match. Can you see any problems in his movement?
He is uncharacteristically shanking shots. Mac says it is his back.
First serve pace dropping. How can you say he is fine physically.
When in tennis history has a 34 year old physically worn down a 24 year old Top 3 player? Unprecedented.

Look at Rafa almost dying in fifth set vs young Med 2019 Final. Time waits for no man.

Imagine the historic moment if Rod Laver presents the trophy to our Djoker Sunday.

When was the last time Djokovic lost a final because the previous match made him tired?
When he lost to Murray after the wimbledon semifinal against Del Potro?

novak will be feeling extra pressure than normal because of the cygs and outright slam lead being at stake....you never know. is medvedev mentally strong enough?

Med will be better. Zverev was better than his previous major appearances.
Next Gen continues to improve. It will be close. Med is well rested.

Didn’t Medvedev get beaten in straight sets in the last two hard court Slams (2020USO, 2021AO) when he faced a higher ranked player? Some guys are good at beaten lower ranked players, but it takes a special kind of toughness to beat higher ranked players in a Bestof5 at a Slam. Has Medvedev somehow found that since January?

It looks like Djokovic is bringing his highest level in the last two matches. If he does so in the final, isn’t that higher than Medvedev’s highest level? Is there any reason to think otherwise when Djokovic is going for his 4th Slam in a row and his 9th Slam out of the last 13? Who will be more confident about their ability to win the match?

If Djokovic plays at a high level, what is the strategy Medvedev can use to win three sets? Play 20 feet back and hope to break him enough times from behind the baseline? If Rafa couldn’t do that on clay at RG, can Daniil do it? Does he have the stamina to outlast Djokovic like Rafa and Murray did at the USO in 2010, 2012, 2013? Does he have the power to outhit him like Wawrinka did in 2016? Does he have the finishing touch at the net like Federer in 2007? I think the answer is no on all counts.

Just ask yourself these questions before betting the house or the rent money on Daniil.

Will be interesting to see the odds. Think Vegas will give the well rested Med better chances than Zverev.

Caesars Sportsbook lists Djokovic as the -225 favorite (risk $225 to win $100) in its latest Djokovic vs. Zverev odds, while Zverev is the +175 underdog
