Darren Cahill - Fed Would Not Have Beaten Rafa

I thought Cahill was supposedly Nadal hater according to people here? On topic,I think Nadal would have a good shot to reach the final and/or win the title had he participated but we'll never know.

Is he indirectly saying that roger played rather badly today? If he is, I think he is sort of not giving credit to andy.

Lmao...this is going to get ugly!

Nadal was neither there nor fit so it really doesn't matter and I am a Nadal fan!

He's right, 6-2 in slams and he's beaten him in the last 3 slams across 3 different surfaces without playing his best at all besides the French 08 victory. Nadal just get's in Fed's head. Plus he got extended to 5 sets and nearly lost to his bunny Roddick.

Its hard to compare what would have happened if Nadal was in the final.

However, I will say that Federer's level of play sucked - plain and simple. I can't tell you how many times I cringed while watching that match as Federer hit failed to put a second serve in play or completely mishit some forehands.

Federer had quite a few chances to get close to a breakpoint but blew them away because of screwing up second serve returns or missing easy passes he would've never missed a couple of years ago.

I definitely consider Federer to be lucky in winning this slam. His serving was his saving grace today.

well he definitely wouldnt have won the match against nadal playing like today
but since nadal has been injured since rome or madrid i think its quite pointless to talk about it because nobody knows how nadal would be playing without injury
and if he played injured he wouldnt have reached finals

What an idiot. Roger was playing according to his opponent today. If Rafa was across the net, he'd have broken him a few times. No wonder Roger rejected this clown as a potential coach.

Which rafa is he talking about, the injured knee rafa or the one that showed up here last year? How is it fair to compare this year Fed to last year Rafa?

Well you play each opponent differently and Roger has beaten Nadal at Wimbledon before. That said Roger seemed extremely nervous to me.He was indeed very tntative at the beginnig. But overall, both played great.

i thought that too, but as B.Becker said during the match Roddick just took away his superior shotmaking (superior to Roddicks) and thats what probably made him nervous, he couldn't do much on the return, Roddick was just serving phenomenaly

on the other hand, a match with Nadal would be a totaly different match, played by either Roddick or Federer

Roger would never loose 5 major finals against Nadal, oh wait he did

Yep, he did lose that 5 set match against Nadal last year...because he faltered on serve.

This year, he was rock-solid on serve, and became better on serve as the 5th set went on. If you just looked at the serving stats in the 5th set, you'd have thought it was Karlovic serving against Roddick.

And he still played some pretty great baseline tennis too; again, it was tough for him to break, like last year. But Roddick was of course a big part of the reason for that, serving like he did, which put incredible pressure on Federer.

The Thursday and Friday before Wimbledon started on grass in an exhibition tournament.

I would not take those matches too serious. Those matches are not even play at the best of 3 sets. It is 2 sets and tie break if each player wins a set.

Roger struggled a little bit off the baseline today, but I believe that's a testament of how quick and awkward the points were. If Roger had played Rafa, his strokes would've been much more grooved than they were today.

if he plays rafa then he plays a different match. different approach differetn mindset different tactics different match from the first stroke. simple. therefore no one will ever know if this is true. rafa's struggling to run properly at the moment, so if he plays rafa today, he wins.

Cahill should just simply say Federer didn't play well today, which was a fact, instead of saying that he would have lost if he had played Nadal, there are too many variables involved to be making such a statement and it is purely speculative as many of you have pointed out.

Cahill is a clown.Nadal would have lost to Roddick today, the way Roddick was serving,.Nadal wins one epic 5 set match at wimbledon and now he is the grass court king, LMAO!

Absolutely, he is not giving credit to Andy who IMO played better in this match than Roger did in last year's final!

Plus how can he say that when Roger had these numbers?

1st Serve % 64%
Aces: 50
Double Faults 4
Winners (including Service) 107
Unforced Errors: 38
Winning % on 1st Serve 89 %
Winning % on 2nd Serve 60 %
Net Approaches: 38 of 59 = 64 %

How is this playing poorly?

Roger himself played much better in last years final than this years final, and even in this years final he still beat Roddick, so how can Roddick have been playing better than Roger in last years final when he couldnt even beat Roger playing much worse than last year in this years final.

Depends which Rafa Cahill was talking about. Federer could beat the current Rafa with his left arm and both hands tied behind his back. Fed would've struggled a little against a healthy Nadal, but he also would've also raised his game knowing it was Nadal he'd meet in the final as opposed to Roddick whom he had beaten so thoroughly numerous times in the past. In that case, a more aggressive Fed would've showed up and mopped the floor with Nads.

He did not play well last year then this year.He maded alot of unforced errors and he didnt capitalize on break points against Nadal.

A healthy Nadal spanks Hewitt.

A prime Hewitt spanks Nadal .

Nadal's knees in their current state would prevent him from moving well enough to beat Hewitt or Roddick playing at the levels they were in this tournament.
