Semi-Finals

Serbia v Canada

Czech Republic v Argentina

Play offs

Spain v Ukraine
Netherlands v Austria
Croatia v Great Britain
Switzerland v Ecuador
Germany v Brazil
Poland v Australia
Belgium v Israel
Japan v Colombia

My favourite match will RNadal v SStakhovsky.

This match will be on clay and therefore no serve and volley for SStakhovsky. RNadal will avenge RFederer's defeat and absolutely pummel SStakhovsky.

I think GB's tie is intriguing. Murray plays a 16 year old, and rising talent Dan Evans is up against world no 33 Ivan Dodig.

GB should win that match. AMurray could even get another triple bagel.

Poland vs Australia will be interesting. Should be a very close tie. I think Poland has the advantage. Poland has the better #1 player (Janowicz > Hewitt) and they have one of the top doubles teams in the world in Fyrstenberg and Matkowski.

Janowicz withdrew today due to a spinal injury :( explains US Open performance I guess..

For the life of me I don't know why Federer isn't playing Davis Cup. I know he wants to add more to his resume before he retires - especially made evident by the fact he wants another shot at the gold medal in singles at the 2016 Olympics - so why the hell is he skipping out? He and Wawrinka form a formidable 1-2 punch in singles and could carry Switzerland pretty far in the World Group, regardless of what happens in doubles. Heck, they're both pretty good doubles players as well, having won the men's doubles gold medal at the 2008 Olympics together.

The rigours of the ATP schedule isn't an excuse either because the tie against Colombia is taking place in Switzerland. Why can't the guy play a couple matches? They wouldn't be grueling matches because, well, it's Colombia.

Don't get it at all.

Jerzy out for Poland. Kyrgios in for Matosevic (but will probably only play singles on Sunday in a dead rubber).

Would be nice to get back in the world group.

Probably doesn't want to overstrain his bad back? I guess qualifying for the WTF seems to be his main priority at the moment.

I guess, but he could risk re-straining it when he plays his next tournament too. That's always going to be a risk so I figure he might as well play Davis Cup, one of the most important things in tennis, while his back is still healthy. Wouldn't you think being healthy for Davis Cup is more important than being healthy for, say, Shanghai or Bercy?

I suppose Fed cares more about Tour events, like the WTF, as you mentioned, and not so much international competition.

Does anyone know anywhere the Spain vs Ukraine match will be on TV or on a streaming site? I live in the UK and Eurosport has the UK match (with Andy Murray) but I can't see the Spain match anywhere.

Any ideas?

If you are prepared to pay £6.95. for a 3 day pass, you can watch it live from the Davis Cup site.

I would bring the mighty James Ward in for the next round of matches. I fear Evans will lose to Coric. His game doesn't fit on clay.

To a 16 year old? No way. The kids ground game is extremely impressive, and heck he's chasing down almost everything, but his serve is begging to get abused.

He will win the baseline exchanges, which should give him chances on Evans serve. It could be a break-fest if they played each other.

Verdasco just served out his match against Dolgo in 4...Rafa time!

Stakhovsky upsets Rafa in a five-set clay court match in Spain to bookend his defeat of Federer at Wimbledon, immediately retires to head the ATP and shut down the WTA?

I would bring in the mighty James Ward instead of Murray but I admit I have had a few head injuries over the years.

RNadal is determined to avenge the defeat of RFederer.

SStakhovsky will have been taken down a few pegs after this pummeling.

Switzerland go 2-0 up

AMurray triple bageled LBram, I believe.

Switzerland takes a 2-0 lead in their tie vs Ecuador as Chiudinelli just won his match over Campozano 3-6 6-1 6-3 7-6(7). Good on Switzerland for getting it done without Federer.

They're facing freaking Ecuador. Clear 5-0 tie for Switzerland. Fed's services are not not required.

Don't be a smart ***. Marco freaking Chiudinelli isn't exactly a shoe in to win all his matches, even if the opponent is Ecuador. Federer should be there, especially considering a Davis Cup win is still missing from his resume. This is coming from a huge Federer fan. He should be there helping the team, whether or not his services are "required".
