p.s. How do you get that animated here? I see a couple on the list, but not that one. I have an emoticon program downloaded into my twitter but how do I get more options here or other sites that may not have a full roster?..if you don't mind

TEAM GB! TEAM GB! TEAM GB! Is it too much to ask that Davis Cup matches might, one day, be televised on terrestrial TV on the Red Button or something?

I'm being unrealistic, I know, but it would be great to see tennis become a big deal in the UK again, outside of Wimbledon and Queens Club at least.

Good to see Nadal exact revenge on Stak for Roger. Nice thing to do for your good friend.

It kinda reminds me a bit of 1973 when Billie Jean King felt she had to go out and save Margaret Court's honour by beating Bobby Riggs after he had just humiliated Margaret in a challenge match earlier!

Now if Roger can only return the favour to Rafa by beating Lukas Rosol or Steve Darcis for him! :)

I believe most people agree that Riggs did not try his best against BJK.

But, Stak made way too much noise after his fluke win over Roger.

Well done Team GB in getting back into the world group for the first time since 2008. No doubt they had a bit of luck in that neither Cilic nor Karlovic were able to play for Croatia but they were playing away on their least favoured surface and still came through. Plus Andy seems to have caught the DC bug and has been hinting about making himself permanently available in future! So..onwards and upwards..hopefully! :)

I'm a Sky Sports subscriber and can catch other tournaments on Sky and Eurosport (chiefly Masters and WTA). But I wasn't able to catch any other Davis Cup matches other than Croatia v GB! :(

Serbia has got this, even if Tipsarevic loses this TB I can't imagine Pospisil coming back from 2 sets down against the home crowd and with his fitness.

Thank you for this. Hope they get a weak country like Canada.

I'm going to thoroughly enjoy it when we do draw Great Britain and beat them. Your words will be stuffed so far down your throat you'll choke.

Canada was a Davis Cup semifinalist this year. Where was Great Britain? Oh yeah, fighting just to get in to the World Group next year. You can't afford to get cocky yet.

Lmao can't you take a joke. ;)

If we win doubles and Murray wins two points on paper, so should we draw you we can win.

LOOOOOOL Riggs threw the match. That's mp secret. BJK is probably the onle human being who still believes he "beat" Riggs.

okay, gotcha' :)

Ukraine is now a set apiece against Spain and this decison to go with Nadal and Marc Lopez is backfiring and looking very strange...Lopez does not belong out there...it's amazing Spain has accomplished what it has in recent times never settling on a doubles team or having one you can count on but today it might bite them, or at least Nadal who's going at least 4 today, or five and then maybe 3 or more against Dolgo tomorrow...I mean if they wanted to play Nadal why not just stick him with Feliciano, he'd win many points right off of serve which Marc can't...I know they've had success before but the guy just doesn't have weapons

p.s. and forgot GB was tied going into today..they win in 4 today so move worked

I've been busy all weekend and missed nearly all the matches, but I hope you saw him win his singles match (I saw the scores). Marc does his part. Just because you're trying to manage your anxiety, that doesn't mean you can't be nice.

Vamos!

Aussie returns to World Group since 2007...man tears are flowing...:cry::cry:

There was criticism of Rafter resting Hewitt for the double (which we lost), but he should be congratulated for making the hard decision to start building the next wave of younger players. It was a calculated risk worth taking.

I thought it was a great decision to rest Hewitt (and one made with his involvement). Plus Tomic really stepped up and fought hard in the reverse singles. I just hope for his sake he takes some of what Rafter and Roche have instilled in him back to his singles career.

And while Kyrgios is "a bit underdone" to quote Rafter, he definitely is an immense talent we could build a squad around for the next decade.

Bring on the world group in 2014!

Great to see Aussie back where they belong. Also, with GB making the leap, all 4 Slams countries will be in the World Group, which will be nice to watch.

Nice to see Spain and Australia back in the World Group for 2014.

It was women's honour that BJK was concerned with. BJK was annoyed with Court for accepting the match with Riggs in the first place, after Evert and BJK had turned Riggs down. Court got thrashed by Riggs in their match. BJK then felt compelled to also face Riggs to regain "women's honour" from "chauvinistic" Riggs. It was brilliant WWF style entertainment and role playing, I must say. Whether the match was a work (result pre-determined) or a shoot (match played for real), the match did its job superbly either way in increasing tennis' popularity.

Nadal beat the guy who beat Fred. Can we add this to Nadal's h2h against Frederer?

:D

Capital idea, old chum! Someone should definitely calculate that stat. We could call it "field H2H", "secondary H2H", "derivative H2H", "transitive H2H" or "H2H once removed".

It should go like this: for every single opponent that has faced both players considered, each of the rivals receives as many points as the number of times he has beaten that third player multiplied by the number of times the third player has beaten his rival.

Example:

Federer - 19/2 - Davydenko - 6/5 - Nadal

For Davydenko Fed gets 19*6 = 114 points and Nadal 5*2 = 10 points.

Federer - 9/11 - Murray - 5/13 - Nadal

For Murray Fed gets 9*5 = 45 and Nadal 13*11 = 143.

Repeat for every other player who has played both and add each player's points. Both totals give us the respective FH2H, which is a good estimation of relative dominance and thus the definitive factor in the formula for goathood.

First one providing a spreadsheet with the calculations gets a tootable goat horn in bronze.

what singles match are you talking about?...he certainly doesn't play singles for Spain, they're not That deep!:)...seems like a great guy but he was struggling for a while and visibly frustrated

edit: oh I see, he played the fourth rubber..well, there's not exactly any pressure after the tie is decided (he'll never play a live rubber) and I've never heard of his opponent, but good for him. Spain really needs to develop a reliable doubles team to keep their chances strong.

They have one: Granollers and Lopez. They were the #2 doubles team in the world after the Bryan's for awhile but lately they've been falling a bit.

I guess Granollers was unable to play, otherwise I have no clue why he wouldn't have been playing with Lopez.

Anyone who saw Kyrgios's game. Think he has what it takes to win a slam? He has plenty of potential, just needs a good coach

He's definitely potential top 10 material. But that has been said of lots of young players.

Only teen in the top 200 and I believe his rise from the 800s at the beginning of the year to 186 is the most number of places anyone has jumped in the history of the ATP rankings in that short a time. Already has a big serve and forehand that have troubled higher ranked players. He has this incredible ability to direct a high percentage of booming first serves to whichever corner he wants in either court. But he needs more strength and to work on other aspects of his game.

He has a great work ethic and trained incredibly hard to earn his spot in the Davis Cup team after a play off with Matosevic. And he looks to have grabbed the chance to learn from the likes of Roche, Hewitt and Rafter.

But for me the early signs of a future champion are his mental strength and immense self belief. Of the three grand slam matches he's played, he just looked like he belonged there. Bring on the 2014 AO ...

I havn't seen him play singles but he's not very impressive at doubles, he's very unnatural at net which isn't a good sign for his singles career. His serve is pretty good though.

Don't really care about the stats, but I'll do it for the bronze horn. I'll take your word for it, aye?
