it would appear verdasco is not a natural doubles player!!

who knew>?

it is very entertaining watching talented non-doubles specialists play doubles :)

Nando and Feli have been playing doubles together since they were in juniors together ....... that said, both are lefties ...... dont know if that matters

............

deuce on Spain's serve, 4 all

didn't know that. they sure don't play like doubles players, though this may be cos i've not seen a lot of doubles on clay.

well, to be honest, i've seen a lot of pictures of them playing as a doubles team, and i think they did win their rubber at mar del plata last year, but i don't know when's the last time (if ever) that they won a title (not counting last year's davis cup :p)

spain holds 6-5

just tuned in!

eww!!what the heck happened with Lalo's hair?!?

he's not the same Lalo we all were jealous of.:(

stepanek seizing control at net, smashing accurately, keeping the counterpunch at bay, and then manufacturing a beautiful slice volley for the point.

there have been more minibreaks than service holds in this tiebreak

verdasco serving

well, both teams blinked multiple times in that tie break, but it's the spanish who held it together in the end to take the first set. doesn't feel like the match is over though. while birdman might fold, it feels as if radek is out for redemption after this epic 5 set loss to ferrer yesterday. he's playing well.

links were not working in IE8, but they are working fine in foxfire

berdych holds, CR leads 4-3

murphy's law: stream goes down in potential final set before winning davis cup final!!!!!

but I hope radek starts to channel ferrer from yesterday! :D

Spain up an early break in the 3rd. I guess no tennis tomorrow. Alas. I shall head out and get on with the day then. Have fun everyone.

CR serving 1-3

Congrats to spain...there was no doubt they were going to win.

Maybe they muzzles the crowd noise for the tv because it didnt sound too loud.

Everything went Spain's way this year. Yet you have to go out there and get the job done. Congrats to the team!

Besides having the best roster available, Spain benefited this year of a cakewalk draw playing all its ties home. Yet they almost botched it against a mediocre Germany that had to line up Zverev. Probably the most one-sided D-Cup in a long time :-/ I truly expected CR to fare a bit better given Nadal's and Fer's performance at the WTF, even if the circumstances and the rivals were of a very different nature.

Nowadays probably only Argentina could have a decent chance at winning on Spanish soil, perhaps Switzerland if Roger commits, he'll have the chance next year, if I recall correctly.

Ah, well, at least there were some interesting underdog stories, like Israel beating Russia or the Czech beating the Croats.

Awful davis cup final. :(

Good job to Spain though. Happy to see Rafa win the davis cup.He needed it. Hopefully he can start playing his best tennis again.

JCF was the sub for the team in this tie, but he was a main actor in the tie against Germany, so they were acknowledging him, trying to foster the team spirit and all that. When you can afford to sideline players like JCF, Robredo or Almagro I guess some egos can suffer.

If I were Costa I'd take out Ferrer for the last match and replace him with JCF.

Ferrer's already a hero, but he's spent, physically and emotionally, and has no motivation to win a dead rubber.

JCF, however, would probably love to play in the Palau Sant Jordi again- the place where he won the Davis Cup in 2000. And, then, JCF could be part of another winning final round, after contributing so much in the semi's of DC this year.

It'd be a nice gesture from Costa, especially considering that Ferrero helped him out by practicing with Nadal and Ferrer, and the emotional support he brought the team.

Good points.

Overall, the major teams are:
USA -- top doubles pair, year out top 10er
Switzerland -- best player of the open era, solid top 15 player, both good in doubles
Argentina -- legit top 5 and slam winner, top 5 serve returner
Serbia -- legit top 3 player, top 2 doubles player
France -- legit top 10, 3 legit top 20's

Yes a cakewalk but Spain still had to play Serbia at home in the first tie which I thought it was a tough one. They won 4-1 (I think).

I also remind you all that Spain beat Argentina last year away without Nadal and in hard courts!

I personally thought they were the best team out there and therefore they won. Simple and straight.

Cograts to Spain :)

Spain is nearly unbeatable on clay. The only team who has a chance against Spain on clay are the Swiss team, as Wawrinka can beat the likes of Verdasco and Ferrer on clay, and Roger surely can, so even if they lose 2 matches to Nadal, they win 2 against the others and might just score a doubles win. Argentina with both Nalby and Potro in top forms could also be a threat.

Nadal would have only hindered that team if he played. And it was carpet, not hardcourt. Nadal would have faced Nalbandian in the first shift, and then Ferrer against Del Potro. Argentina would have had a 2-0 lead the first day.

Having Nadal injured was the best thing Spain could have dreamed. Lopez played flawlessly. It was a beauty to watch :)
