With Goffin's win over Cilic, Coric must beat Coppejans. This is far from assured as Coric is 82 in the hard court dominace ratings this year, holding serve 78% of the time but only breaking 14%. Coric only winning 46% of games on hard court. The 22 year old Coppejans has a chance with a ranking of 122 in the world.

Abysmal from Novak, needing 5 sets to beat Kuku, with all those UE's too. But still, he just didn't give up. Now I fully trust Troicki to feck it up like a boss.

GB and Japan now tied, Murray usually would be my 5th set break but he was out for a while on paternity leave. Intriguing.

So he will end this year with only 1 slam?

Well, there are many forms of decline. Compared to three Slams and one final last year, even two Slams and two other finals would be a decline. But yes, I firmly believe his game is deteriorating a bit. And as we've seen with Nadal, a game that at some point seems invincible can very quickly implode. Especially when it's very demanding in the physical department.

Nadal declined quickly, Novak hasn't.

Correct. The tie will be in held in Serbia - so you guys get to choose the venue/turf/surface. It would be interesting if Murray and Djokovic both played - with Djoko having the crowd mostly on his side for once
Is it after Roland Garros?
For once an interesting Davis Cup. Last 3-4 editions have been a bit boring.

Of course provided both Murray and Djokovic participate in that tie.
Yes we lacked a good clash between two very top players for a while.

He might make it just playing to his seed. I believe he'll be high enough in the seeding (9-12) at these events to avoid the top seeds in round of 16, so quite a few QFs would seal the deal.

I'm not so sure about that.

He only has 10 pts to defend at IW but a QF to defend in Miami, then R16 in Rome. His Madrid points will replace those earned in Brisbane (90). That means +350 if he makes QF everywhere.

Even if he plays MC, a QF there means 0 net gain.

You can say that again
"''This is probably the most psychologically and physically difficult match in my career," Djokovic said. ''Kokushkin played so well that he probably deserved to win.''"
from tennis.com.
Didn't get to see the match, but that's some quote coming from Novak who's been in so many 5-setters in so many big tournaments. This is an early DC tie. Do you think he believes that or was it more of a spur of the moment kind of comment?

Djokovic will pay to put Laver Arena on a cargo plane and delivered to Belgrade

It's the same problem plaguing Gavrilova representing Australia at the Fed Cup. Cause they switched citizenships they have extra rules before playing for the country. Not sure the details but yeah I remember reading how they blocked him from playing

It's because Bedene has already played DC for Slovenia. The current rules state that you can't play for more than one national team. He is appealing it but judgement seems to have been indefinitely deferred for some reason. It's a pity because I think we could do with him to help take the pressure off Murray.

How humble of Humbovic to beat someone who deserved to win

Bedene only played 3 rubbers for them. All of them dead.

QF draw: (home team listed first, as in the European tradition. So, not the American tradition of A at B.)

Serbia v Great Britain [If GB were at home and could play this on grass, they'd stand a decent chance. Away, probably on clay or slow hard, very difficult].
Italy v Argentina [Presumably, it'll be on clay. But most of the Argentinians are also very much at home on clay, so it doesn't make all that much difference].
Czech Republic v France [Indoors? Most French players are pretty good all rounders, so again not sure the surface matters that much].
USA v Croatia [Slow outdoor hard court? Grass?]

Why are they ripping off the ticket holders and abandoning the 5th rubber if they win already ?????? people pay good money to see 4th and 5th match even though it maybe shortened ................. NO wonder davis cup sucks

Wow. I see best six atp 500 and 250 events, so with 5 wins in those, plus some semifinals (which are 90 points at ATP 250 same as R16 at ATP1000) Thiem will have a hard time increasing his standing with further ATP500 and 250 events. Since he missed Madrid last year he actually has 7 atp500 and 250s countings, but that ends at Madrid. So 900 new points for QF everywhere, but Thiem has 180 at Miami, 10 at IW, 90 at Italian Open, and 90 effectively for Madrid to defend. I don't know if the math is the same as your calculation, but bottom line Thiem can only gain points with high level results. Well, he's going to have to do very well at the ATP1000s and that will take some luck in the draw since he could draw Djoko for every QF!

I imagine they will play it on clay but let's not forget Team GB won last year's final away on clay. The great difficulty, of course, will be if Djokovic plays (although Murray can push him on that surface as he did at RG last year) and the lack of strong supporting players like Serbia will have with Troicki.

Yeah 'Davids Cup' ( who is David ? ) is a meaningless little non entity of a tournament - Say so on TW - so it's true !

Especially as the Stinkin' Brits never win it.

But if the Yanks win it ( or Nedal or the Jeker or some Swiss team ). Suddenly it's the best and most important tournament in the world.

No double standards or hypocrisy here.

No, the most important tournaments are those won by the Big three -
1. Roanic ( worlds new number one ) And GOATist GOAT ever ever...Best player in the know universes (ever )
2. Jerkervich ( only second to Milos )
3. Gasket - The best player ever ( apart from Milos )
4. And some Swiss bloke. ( Who always loses to the Great Milos )

Sorry, That's the big four now....Anyone else only wins minor tournaments .....Says so here On Tennis warehouse ! Where balance, fair and intelligent comment, and even handed appreciation of real talent are the watch words !
