Davis cup 2021 Nov 25th to Dec 5th

Well, Serbia does not have a chance to pull this off considering that everyone except Djokovic has underperformed in their individual matches .. Croatia leads 5:1 in the second set...

Not gonna lie, for selfish reasons I have enjoyed this new DC format. It gave us an opportunity to utilize Djokovic better as the tournament is condensed in a couple of weeks rather than scattered across the whole season. Unfortunately his teammates don't even qualify as average in 2021. And by the time some of them possibly get their act together, who knows if Novak will still be a "guaranteed point". I just feel there was a window of opportunity in recent years for another title. But in the big picture can't have any complaints after the shocking victory in 2010 and an electric inaugural ATP Cup last year.

As much as certain folks will want to use taxes as some valid counterargument, the guy's commitment to his country over all the years has been more than exemplary. For that and many other reasons I feel awful for wanting Djokovic to do even more. But everyone knows that a lot is on the line next season. So start with getting that damn vaccine and showing everyone who is the boss of all bosses one more time my man.

Until then, come on Med and Russia.

Croatia in the finals... Great to see hugs at the net. Won fair and square.. Serbia humble and respectful in defeat...
these doubles guys don't belong on the same court with Novak, and they know it. Now when they see each other in next year's year ending final... these doubles guys can laugh at Novak

Borna Gojo learned clutchness in the brutal ACC tournament. Won a dead rubber to knock my UNC Tar Heels out in 2019.

These academy mugs could never make it in the ruthless jungle of North Carolina.

Put Kachanov or Karatsav out there,, Rublev stinking up the court big time

See, these Doubles guys boasting that they beat the #1 player in the world during the interview and they Beat him................LOL..... you only beat him cause it was Doubles........... :-D

I still can't believe Serbia lost in 2013.

Sorry Djokovic, you can't win the Davis Cup alone like Nadal did in 2019.

Well,it's not like Nadal won on his own.Bautista Agut and Granollers/Lopez contributed as well.
Serbia unfortunately didn't really have a solid second player in this competition.
And when it comes to doubles it was obvious even with Djokovic playing that the Serbs were underdogs today.

I knew them, but I think they had more years representing Serbia than Yugoslavia.
You're not wrong, and if you're talking about the former Yugoslavia instead of Fake New Yugoslavia (Serbia and Montenegro), than that makes more sense.

Zivojinovic was solidly in the former Yugoslavia though.

Anyway, germans can defeat the russians tomorrow ??

Is ATP #279 Borna Gojo that good? He beat #33 Lajovic.
Or is this the stuff that happens in DC?

Gojo also beat #26 Sonego and #60 Popyrin.
If Rublev plays like he did against Lopez and Ymer, he isn't beating Gojo.
Cilic vs Medvedev could also be interesting. He was up 2 sets 0 in their last match in Wimbledon. And Medvedev was a bit inconsistent in the last 2 matches against PCB and Ymer.
Anyway it's clear Russia will have to win both singles or it'll be nearly impossible.
Same against Germany, who also has a strong double.

There is no way Lajovic lost, even a set up against 200+ ranked player. What a let down.

Good news though is Novak still playing some fantastic tennis. Just brilliant.

I can’t remember any relevant players from the old Yugoslavia.
Serbia + Croatia proved to be much better.
Monika Seleš, Mima Jaušovec, Slobodan Zivojinović, won slams at the days of Yugoskavia.
Iva Majoli and Goran Ivaniševič started their development in Yugoslavia, however won the slams for Croatia.

Yes, I forgot of Monica Seles. That was unforgivable.
Iva Majoli won her only slam ruining the Hingis otherwise perfect slam year.
I associate more Majoli and Ivanisevic to Croatia than to Yugoslavia.

it was sad to see Djokovic kinda give up at the doubles because of his crappy partner

I don't think in this particular doubles it came down to Krajinovic. The problem is,regardless who Djokovic plays with in doubles it isn't really a team;it's basically 2 players put together on a court who have to play.
The Croatians play together week after week so that's such a huge advantage compared to Djokovic and player X who never play together on the tour.

Gojo did that already in this DC, he beat two other players ranked higher than #60.
He’s either zoning, or proving us that DC is a very unique competition in which many players play below their standard.
I remember Diego Schwartzman losing to an #800 player some months ago.

That was easier than expected for Russia. 2 straight set wins and only 12 games dropped in 4 sets.
Gojo vs Rublev should be decisive tomorrow.

Medvedev totally booed by the crowd once again, though. Anyone saw the interview on court after the match? It was quite nasty...

Isn't Gojo a bit like Norrie? Had to find his footing on the main tour after spending time in the university leagues?
