Davis Cup: Canada v. France

In the Davis cup v. israel there was no thread on the tie. The coverage was great...live on sportsnet all day as well as the final being on sportsnet.ca. The tennis played by young Vasek Pospisil from Vancouver was mature and effective and exciting, beyond his years and experience, and as Lauendeau said "He won it for Canada... 3 wins in 3 days.

Can he repeat his performance should Raonic still not have recovered from injury? Will Raonic be ready? Where should the tie be played? Montreal has been suggested, but who do you think the crowd would cheer for?

Whay would be a beter your choice as a venue?

How do you rate Canada's chances against the older and experienced French team?

General question: When does Canada have to have named the Venue by? I live 3 H from Toronto, so I'd like to go if it's close enough.

Those should be great matchups. Maybe Tsonga-Raonic, or Monfils-Raonic. Pulling for Canada on this one.

Not sure, but here is a comment by Jack Graham on the Canadian venue choice.

The tie will be in February so an indoor venue with lots of seats will be necessary (eg an arena or bb court which can be converted to a tennis court

Check with http://www.lovemeansnothing.ca/ to find out (eventually)

Tbh I think it'll be much closer than people think. chances are Canada will probably lose but I'm confident that they'll at the very least force it to a deciding rubber. Canada would probably take the doubles with Nestor and one of either Milosh or Pospsil who aren't too shabby at the net.

I'm also getting pretty excited about Pospsil and I'm hoping milos can get back into form.

I ran into Vasek Pospisil today at Uniprix Stadium. I was making my way out to the outdoor courts and he was in the corridor talking to Louis Borfiga, the head of elite player development at Tennis Canada. I stopped, stuck my hand out and said "well done!". He shook my hand and said thanks. He had a huge smile on his face. :)

It's going to be tough against France. I hope Raonic has recovered from whatever bug he caught in Israel. But he hasn't played many matches since his injury. He needs to get a bunch of matches under his belt but there's time until February. My hopeful guess is that they will win one singles match and the doubles, but will still lose 3-2.

As for the venue, I heard that the Bell Center could be a possibility, since the Habs (Montreal Canadiens) will be on the road.

it would be quite an upset if canada beats france. whatever surface france has the edge - even lightning fast indoor court. tsonga, simon, gasquet, llodra in doubles - too much firepower for canada. those guys are in a different league than sela and weintraub LOL

and god forbid they play in TO or montreal. you'd get more cheering for france. hell, even when canada played belarus in TO a few years back the crowd was 50/50. i suspect vancouver or calgary.

Would be nice but Canada stands no chance.
Popsicle was awesome against Israel but this is the big league now.
Raonic has a serve and a forehand (when not injured) but little else for now. He's got everything to prove. Lots to improve.

Loved the post about Montrealers supporting the French :) 50% would probably do too.
