Czech vs. Argies and Croatia vs USA will be very interesting. I expect Spain and Russia to go through in the bottom half.

Czech / Arg gonna be pretty tough. Gonna feel weird playing carpet right after the grass season. Hope that Nalbo and Delpo will be playing good by then. If not, we're toast.

Spain is major favorite to win back to back DC this year. The only team that has a chance to stop them is a top form Russia playing at home.

I don't think Israel has a chance against Russia. Or Germany against Spain (schade).

Czech Rep and Argentina? I think that's going to be the most exciting of the match-ups.

USA and Croatia, watching their last round...I think USA needs to make a crucial change in lineup to top Croatia.

For those of the losers, I think Serbia and France will either win through to stay in the World Group.

Switzerland too. Fed will make his customary appearance to boss some 2nd rate team around and futilely keep the Swiss at the World Group, only to let them down at the 1st round yet again. :? Wish he'd took a serious go at it, Fed-Stan is a good enough duo to have big chances against any other team excepting Spain on clay.

You know, that's right. He did do that before. And yes, the Fed-Waw combo really is comparable to just about every other team.

Even if Federer decides to play in a year in first round tie i don`t see him playing all the ties trying to reach the final.Doubtfully he will go to South America or Spain especially i don`t see him playing in the second round ever considering it is just after Wimbledon.

did they say Croatia will play on clay? I realize this hurts America a lot and Ancic is a fine player on clay, but it sort of renders Ljubicic and (especially) Karlovic useless, no?

Also, if USA meets Spain in the fina, America is the host, correct? If so that'd be quite a match-- the outcome would likely depend on what kind of form Verdasco is in and whether or not a solid replacement for Blake is found.

Blake has in the past had some success against Nadal on fast surfaces. I'm not saying I think Blake would beat him, just wouldn't count him out. Also, that time of the year, Nadal may not even play.

I think that if both get past Croatia and Czech Rep, USA and Argentina are to play, with Argentina being the host nation. If that's the scenario I don't see USA surviving in the slooooooow clay/mud of Buenos Aires.

The schedule is different this year. Play-off ties are a few days after the US Open and Federer hates playing the week after a major. I'm not sure that he will play.

Ljubicic is not playing DC for a couple of years now and Karlovic is the third player. Both Cilic and Ancic play well enough on clay - meaning they should toast Blake or Fish (or Querrey if they choose him as the best option for clay) and have a solid enough chance against Roddick, who curiously tends to play better on clay in DC then in any other tournament. Basically the only downside to choosing clay is the possibility that they'd have to go with Ivo, but hopefully there'll be no injuries/illnesses for a while now.

I'd swap Blake out for Querrey, he's actually decent on clay. Got to the quarters of Monte Carlo last year and took a set off Nadal on clay in Spain.

ISRAEL-RUSSIA (will it be played in Israel with crowd?)

Sure there will be a crowd. Who is going to protest against the Israelis in Israel? The real question is whom will the crowd be supporting? There is a mess of jews in Israel who emigrated from Russia. I think its something like a million people.

you really think these emigrated people would support russia ? i doubt it...

Why not? They emigrated from the Soviet Union, not Russia but many have close ties with Russia through family there or business dealings. Just watch, if its televised, and see the crowd reaction. Russia is not an ememy of those people and the Soviet Union has now been gone for 17 years.

Israel didn't impress me in the game against Sweden.. sure they won, but Sweden had Vinciguerra who hasn't played a pro-match since 2006 and Thomas Johansson who hasn't played since November.. it was discussed whether Sweden-coach Mats Wilander would bring Stefan Edberg back.
That's how bad the status of Swedish tennis is when Soderling and Joachim Johansson is out injured.

I really can't see Harel Levy taking a set against either Safin, Youzhny or Tursunov

If Spain is the host country in every round they should just be given the Cup now. There is no country that can down Spain on clay, nobody.

Spain would play away against Russia in the semis and USA in the final and the dates are not good for players that go far in majors (Nadal) so I'm not too optimistic about Spain's chances this year.

Not so sure about that, If they got USA it would be in the US.

I favor Roddick and Blake BOTH against Nadal on fast fast hard courts with the crowd. There both not good matchups for him.

Now Verdasco, in the form he is in could prove bigtime problems...
