Davis Cup should elevated doubles not invalidate it.

Davis Cup has lost a lot of love over the years with all the format changes and scheduling challenges.
For old coots like me, it was frustrating to get rid of the home ties and to go to Best of 3 sets.
But what I really loved about the old format was the importance of doubles and the fact it was highlighted on its own day.
Spain up 2 rubbers to Zero for the US after day 1, lots of focus and drama for doubles. If Spain wins dubs the dubs team brings glory and solidified the title. If the US snags the dubs rubber, they start the turnaround for a full upset.

Now with the format having the 2 singles matches first, sure it is the decider if the 1st and 2nd matches split, but otherwise it doesn't even have to be played.
I think at the very least they should either start with dubs or have it the 2nd match and make the #2 singles the decider.

Unfortunately, maybe in a few years it won't matter because DC might disappear.

Since the new format began in 2019, all six finals (except DC 2020 not held due to the pandemic) have ended 2–0, with only the singles matches being contested.

I couldn’t care less about a tennis event held exclusively for a few Harvard dandies nor do I have a clue when it happens or how it works. Though I may be open to learning one sentence per post.

I understood how it worked up until 2018 under the classic format. Now, every time I think about it, I have to relearn it from scratch.

This is easily solved by just returning to the classic format.
Although I preferred the classic/original format wasn't part of the change to try to make it easier on players' schedules?
Odd, all the tennis powers that be, say "Hey we are going to make this better for the players, make the schedule better..." and then we get a butchered Davis Cup, 2 week masters, and a 1 week off season.

I'd compromise with the old format scheduling, bring back 5 setters but start with Dubs, then #1 singles and if needed #2 singles to decide the match?

I’d rather see players get pushed through brutal five-setters at Davis Cup over the weekend than watch them play pointless exhibitions.

I only knew the Eton dandies. We always shunned the Harvard variety for their fakeness and presumptuous airs. Beau Brummell and I used to debate these matters endlessly at Brooks’s.

Only really cared if GB were involved, but seems a bit of a non event now , Spain v Italy Final no Alcaraz or Sinner says it all.
