Davis Cup: the Final 8 will be played in Italy from 2025 to 2027

But which China, other than Arab money, the next Davis Final 8, hosted in Malaga until this year, barring any last minute surprises, will arrive in Italy. Only the final details are missing and, if everything goes smoothly, together with the pairings for the 2025 playoffs, the new venue will also be announced at 3.30pm. There is talk of a multi-year agreement, with Bologna as the first location and then a possible rotation with Milan and Turin.

EASIEST CHOICE—

The Emilian capital had hosted the group stage until September this year and would have still had a year guaranteed from the previous assignment but the ITF decided to change the formula: no more groups but away and home matches. Bologna would thus maintain its Davis appointment for 2025 while waiting for the details to be known for the next few years, probably until 2030 like the ATP Finals. The Italian organization and the work of Fitp, the two salad bowls and the number 1 in the world have certainly made the choice of the International Federation easier. Italy is increasingly the capital of tennis.

“After 3 fantastic years in Malaga, for the next three years the Final 8 will be hosted in Italy.” With this announcement at the opening of the Davis Cup 2025 draw ceremony, the ITF confirms that Italy, champion of the event for the last two years, will host the Final 8 from 2025 to 2027. Thanks to this, the team led by Filippo Volandri automatically receives the wild card for the finals.

The draw ceremony began with a video message from ITF President David Haggerty, who thanked Malaga for the splendid Final 8 of 2024, the first to also see the Billie Jean Kung Cup final in the same venue.

“We would like to thank Malaga and Andalusia, as well as Tennium and ITF member nation, the Real Federación Española de Tenis (RFET), for being such great partners in helping us take the event to new heights over the past three years . We are confident that over the next three years, working with FITP, we will be able to take the Davis Cup even further, offering an unforgettable experience for both players and fans."
Angelo Binaghi, President of the Italian Tennis Federation (FITP), expressed his enthusiasm and pride in hosting the Final 8 of the Davis Cup. He highlighted not only the recent victories of the Italian Davis Cup team, but also FITP's impressive track record in organizing world-class tennis tournaments.

Binaghi said: “We are thrilled to have been chosen as hosts and look forward to welcoming the best teams in the world to our country next November and for the next three years. Italy first competed in the Davis Cup almost 100 years ago and is proud to have lifted the iconic Davis Cup trophy three times as world champions. FITP will build on Italy's legacy in this competition, working closely with the ITF to deliver a spectacular event for fans, as well as building an even greater future for tennis' great global asset."

The mens tennis world centre of gravity have shifted towards Italy.
First year end finals got renewed , now getting davis cup finals.
Plus atp chairman is italian.

That will leave Sinner in a conundrum. To play the finals in Italy or not

Gaudenzi sure is making the best of his tenure for Italy. What's next? Promote Rome to GS status? /s
Yet another demonstration of being totally uninformed about current events, and for this reason conspiracy theories are created without knowledge of the facts.

The players have expressed their desire not to undertake further stressful travels at the end of the season, therefore preferring to remain in Europe.
This is the reason why the bids of China and Arabia to host the ATP Finals or Davis Cup finals were not taken into consideration.

Given the historic moment mainly due to the enthusiasm generated by Sinner, Italy is investing heavily in tennis, unlike other European federations which evidently have no interest in taking on the burden of an event such as the Davis Cup finals.
Ergo, Gaudenzi and his nationality have nothing to do with it.

PS
Under Gaudenzi's aegis they took the Next-Gen away from Italy, bringing them to Jeddah, and we saw in the last edition what a beautiful show of collective enthusiasm... thanks to a completely aseptic environment.

If the host nation gets a wildcard for the finals, then why did Spain play in world group pre final match also. Spain definitely played and went to final 8.

What am i missing?

There's plenty of countries in europe eager to host the finals, I'd argue Germany would have been a better destination for the davis cup rather than having yet another tournament hosted by the atp president home country

The rule had been changed long before getting to know the new host country.
Among other things, they have also changed the new format, meaning the first preliminaries will take place as in the old Davis Cup, direct clashes between national teams with 3 out of 5.

Another thing, Malaga still had priority to renovate the venue to host the Davis Cup finals but preferred to give up.
The Italian federation came to the rescue to satisfy the players' wishes.
If they had moved it to China, the Davis Cup would have definitively died with all the main players or almost ready to desert it.

Yes, I think that this news is a further excuse to see Sinner present again next year.
It's difficult to think at this point that he will give it up now that the finals are being hosted at home.
Ergo, we will go for a historic tris, Cas permitting.

From what I know there was literally no one in Europe who wanted to host the Davis Cup finals, so much so that there was talk of China as the inevitable venue despite the players' contrary opinion.

Where there's a will there's a way. With some politics they could have found a different home for the davis cup, instead they went for the easy and unfortunately suspitious solution. I'm not saying there's a conflict of interests, I'm saying he's doing nothing to quell any suspicion.

The point is precisely this.
I don't understand where these suspicions come from.
Given the enthusiasm that exists in this historical moment, the headquarters in Italy is the one that offers the greatest guarantees of success.
If someone prefers aseptic contexts, good for them.

Having said that, outside of a discussion of three-yearly/five-yearly venue tournaments etc., Italy at ATP level only boasts the Masters 1000 in Rome, so it doesn't have 500 or even 250.
France which in addition to being home to one of the 4 majors also has a 1000 masters and several 250 tournaments.
No conspiracy here?

The United States which in addition to the US Open has 3 masters 1000s, a 500 and several 250s?

On the contrary, I think Italy is currently the country that boasts the most tournaments in the challenger category, a further demonstration of how big the Italian federation is investing in tennis.

Germany might have been a good choice but certainly Italy sounds nice. Bologna is pretty central and well connected by flight, car and rail.

The new rules mean that as a host Italy has a guaranteed place in the final 8. Will obviously put a lot of pressure on Sinner in particular to play.

Enjoy

Oh, I forgot he also bullies kindergarteners:

The New Format The ITF has introduced significant changes: the Netherlands , thanks to the excellent performance in Malaga, receive a bye in the first round and directly access the September phase. The most significant change concerns the elimination of the group stage, replaced by direct matches with home and away teams.

Qualifying Matches (NB: the first team plays at home)
– Norway vs Argentina
– Australia vs Sweden
– Chile vs Belgium
– Canada vs Hungary
– Austria vs Finland
– Germany vs Israel
– Japan vs Great Britain
– United States vs Taipei
– Korea vs Czech Republic
– Serbia vs Denmark
– Switzerland vs Spain
– Croatia vs Slovakia
– Brazil vs France

Comparison Formula The matches will take place between 31 January and 2 February 2025, with host countries able to choose the exact dates. Each match includes two singles on the first day, followed the next day by doubles and, if necessary, by two more singles.
The Serbia – Denmark match deserves particular attention, which could see a duel between Djokovic and Rune. The winners of this challenge will face whoever prevails between Switzerland and Spain in September, with the Iberians not benefiting from wild cards or direct byes for the first time in years.

Italy, the reigning champion, is waiting to meet the challenger in the quarter-finals, with Bologna hosting the final event of the competition next November 2025.

I feel this format would favour Italy and team USA since they've got the widest bench out there.
Not saying it's a bad format, it's actually way better than what we've got rn.
