If Tsonga is elected to play doubles I'm going to give my vote to GB
Tsonga is not due to play on friday so yes he will play the doubles together with Mahut, and will probably play a match on sunday.

Here is what I think of this tie

Friday, Gasquet beats Ward, Murray beats Simon ..
Saturday Tsonga-Mahut win the doubles match ...
Sunday Murray beats Gasquet.... and Tsonga beats Ward.

past-his-prime Depardieu defeats past-his-prime Connery 3-2.

Was hoping for a break from tennis but I love Davis Cup, sadly any sports watching this weekend will be aimed at Scotland as opposed to England.

Hope France to win this and the whole thing, as I have stated many times before it would be the crowning glory for this generation of French players and in reality define the success of their careers.

.

Why will Jo not play Friday?

Also is Gasquet the right man to play Ward, with his history with choking surely he is the type guy who could mess that one up.

I don't see a Tsonga-Mahut team winning even against the awkward pairing of J. Murray with the flat serving Inglot. I've seen Tsonga-Mahut in the flesh play and they're not a convincing force, losing to "lesser" players who just play more consistent and strategic play that confounds and annoys Tsonga who's more used to his brute force being enough to win points outright.

Got tickets for Friday :) Fortunately the weather is looking better for the end of the week and weekend than it is right now!

Whoever wins, they will be hoping for a Serbia defeat against Argentina, which could happen now that Djokovic isn't playing.

If Serbia win, and Djokovic returns for the semis and/or final, that is a tournament changer. Otherwise, the winner of the GB/France match will be tournament favorite, I think.

I don't get why France didn't just choose to use an already successful French pairing like Benneteau/Roger-Vasselin. There's chemistry there and winning experience (2014 French Open champs). It would pretty much guarantee the doubles rubber in their favour.

Benneteau is injuried(didnt play since March) and just recently became a father.

Tsonga/Mahut are confirmed to play together on saturday. Tsonga won't play on friday but would on sunday.
Simon is actually #1 so we got Murray-Gasquet and Simon-Ward on friday

A bit scared of Simon to be honest, assuming Murray beat Gasquet in the first match.

LOL

Then some decent banter here

Then that chap from Murray's team gets involved

BBC saying Gasquet isn't playing

Gasquet the surprise omission
French captain Arnaud Clement described himself as a "lucky captain" with three of the world's top 13 singles players to call upon, along with last month's Queen's Club doubles champions.

The big decision on Thursday was who to leave out of the opening matches, and it is world number 13 and Wimbledon semi-finalist Gasquet.

"Richard just needs a little more time for recovery after his semi-final last week," said Clement.

"Gilles and Jo had a little more time to prepare for the tie, so that's the reason. They are all very close and for me it's a logical choice."

British captain Leon Smith said: "That's the advantage they have, the strength in depth they've got. They've got such a strong team.

"I don't know how Richard is feeling. He obviously had a great Wimbledon. It may change in the morning, you never know."

Is it a bluff? I certainly would not play Richard v Ward. He is the type to blow that match.

Juan Martin del Potro is on hand in Buenos Aires ahead of Argentina's Davis Cup clash against Serbia
As Argentina bids to stamp its return ticket to the Davis Cup semi-finals without the services of former World No. 4 Juan Martin del Potro, the nation hopes its superstar can be a motivating force from the sidelines.

Del Potro is on hand for Argentina's quarter-final tie against Serbia at the Tecnopolis in Buenos Aires. Victory would see the South American nation through to the last four for the 10th time since 2002. The 26 year old, who is recovering from a third surgery on his left wrist, led the squad to two Davis Cup final appearances, falling to Spain in both 2008 and 2011.

"It's a pleasure that Juan Martin del Potro is here," said captain Daniel Orsanic. "His presence is very important for us."

World No. 22 Leonardo Mayer leads the team into battle on Friday, facing Filip Krajinovic in singles, while Federico Delbonis clashes against Viktor Troicki.

Disagree, Simon is the type to blow a match vs Ward in Davis cup, Simon has a bad history with Davis cup, Gasquet on the other hand I can't remember him losing a match in Davis cup despite being big favourite.
I think the reason apparently is Gasquet not being really fit, he struggled with his body at the end of the match vs Wawrinka.

So Murray-Tsonga for the opening match, what a way to start the tie :)

Seeing as Kazakhstan have got their tie in the bag, and the winner here plays the winner of that tie, it would seem fair to say that the winner of this has a pretty good shot at making the Finals.

Don't underestimate Kazakhstan they have now beaten italy and Australia 2 strong teams

I didn't realize France draw got pretty easy compared to last year, I mean if Kazakhstan qualifies, no disrespect but I would bet my house France beats them (Australia can still qualify 3-2 not impossible task at all). And I think if France plays Argentina, it will be played in France (last time was played in Argentina, Berlocq being the hero there :D). France really has a great shot at lifting the trophy this year!

Today, opening match will be Ward-Simon, followed by Murray-Tsonga. Exciting day.

Yes, but you seem to forget that

Kazakhstan greatest country in the world.
All other countries are run by little girls.
Kazakhstan number one exporter of potassium.
Other countries have inferior potassium.

Even though they haven't faced yet, supposedly Simon and Ward have practiced quite a lot over the last couple of years, so both know what to expect from each other with their game plans. I think Simon will take it. He's in great form this Grass season. But yeah, you're right with his Davis Cup history. Just earlier this year, he barely managed to defeat Struff, which went to 10-8 in the 5th...

I think it's going to be relatively straight forward with the Singles. Simon over Ward, Murray over Tsonga, Murray over Simon, Tsonga over Ward. Doubles is a toss up, Imo. Thinking the British might take the Doubles match. 3-2 to Great Britian.

Simonization in progress: working slow with low, slightly short balls, forcing Ward to bend his knees all the time. That said, what a way to gift a break to someone.

Queens club is one of the most beautiful venue for Davis Cup. Loving Ward's socks, beautiful.

Allez Gillou

Stop slicing, James and start slapping.

As I thought, this tie will come down to the doubles. Murray will probably win both his matches and Ward will lose both of his.
