Murray showing REAL backbone there. Simon will not go away though, he's really playing well.

Be wary of Gilles though, if Murray doesn't break him again he'll be sniffing at Andy's serve.

So true.
This match reminds me a bit the final vs Robredo last year (not as crazy though...so far).

Exactlyyyyy!!! And all the long matches he has had against Kohli.

I rarely spout stuff like "this is obvious, blah blah" but it is. How can Murray explain losing to Simon? basically having to just beat Simon and the 79 year wait (I think) for Davis Cup could be nearing the end. I mean.. of course he can literally explain it.. Simon was too good and I was flat.. but Murray is too proud and too stubborn. If it came to it, he would push till Christmas.

Props to Simon though. Love him, would be such a contender if the serve was a big weapon. Like most players lol. But he hits it so cleannnnnnn

Great to see the emotion from Andy. Hard fought win.

I will be getting tickets to the SF clash!

Murray looking to win this entire competition on his own!

Incredible.

Incredible? Lmao davis cup is small time. Players in and around his ranking haven't even bothered giving it the time of the day. He should be focusing on not mugging it up against big players in slam.

Meant a lot to Fed, Rafa and Novak.

...and their squads were far, far better than GB's

Murray looked emotionally and physically spent. He really does lay it all on the line.

Kudos Andy and Team GB.

Commiserations France, great players.

Clément sends Gasquet warming up for the 5th match and not the 4th. It wasn't the right change to begin with, it was Simon (who fought well, no issue with him) who had to be switched out for Gasquet. Add that to his inability to motivate or provoke a reaction from his players, his absurdly lacking tactical ability and ridiculous player choices, and we've got this. He may have the nicest intentions in the world, but he really has to go. He hasn't what is needed for the role of Davis Cup captain.

This was, in effect, the Murray Show (Andy AND Jamie). Nobody not called Murray played a match for GB during this tie with the sole exception of Ward.

Unless Wardy can come good in his rubber, the whole thing just falls on Andy's shoulders. It's ridiculous and too much IMO. It's no wonder he was struggling to find any energy today especially in those first 2 sets. In the end, he was just running on adrenaline I think.

This is always going to be the problem for Team GB until they can find some consistent depth in their team such as their rivals like France enjoy. Without Andy in the team, it's just going to be impossible for them in the latter stages of the tournament. Ward is too inconsistent and where the heck is Dan Evans these days? He could have helped provide a bit of depth but he's more bloody inconsistent then Ward is!

Kudos to the Murray brothers but we badly need more singles players to step up and take the pressure off Andy!

Why didn't Gasquet play any of the singles? He's coming off his Wimbledon semi showing, would have played Murray close.

And it would have been 8 days since his last match, which finished in 3 straight sets, so is fatigue really the issue?

Apparently, he was suffering from a slight injury. Evidently Clement didn't want to risk playing him unless he had no choice.

Except he did sent him warming up in case there would be a 5th match, which makes little sense if that's the case: no insult to Ward, but I think even despite his disappointing display, Tsonga could've taken on him if required. Clément just preferred Tsonga for reasons of his own and that I cannot honestly understand. Because let's put it this way: if Gasquet is truly injured, why not use the Herbert for doubles who his a regular partner of Mahut and save Tsonga for singles?
