That was just terrible work by the captain.
A 3.5 USTA captain has more sense than this.
Doesn't make any sense. Even if he had sent Mahut against Murray I would've understood considering grass is his best surface and he's won against Murray on said surface. Despite the H2H being 4-1 Murray, it's 1-1 on grass.

This was, in effect, the Murray Show (Andy AND Jamie). Nobody not called Murray played a match for GB during this tie with the sole exception of Ward.

Unless Wardy can come good in his rubber, the whole thing just falls on Andy's shoulders. It's ridiculous and too much IMO. It's no wonder he was struggling to find any energy today especially in those first 2 sets. In the end, he was just running on adrenaline I think.

This is always going to be the problem for Team GB until they can find some consistent depth in their team such as their rivals like France enjoy. Without Andy in the team, it's just going to be impossible for them in the latter stages of the tournament. Ward is too inconsistent and where the heck is Dan Evans these days? He could have helped provide a bit of depth but he's more bloody inconsistent then Ward is!

Kudos to the Murray brothers but we badly need more singles players to step up and take the pressure off Andy!

Funny considering both were desperately hoping to end the United Kingdom last September. #Letsdothis

Also Britian don't need a second singles play for the latter stages, they are bookmakers favourites to win the whole thing now. All teams have their deficiencies but of the final 4 Britain have the only world class player, it isn't a bad hand. Argentina or Belgium's #2 won't be much better than Ward. While they don't have a big 4 member as their #1.

Also Britain have got 3/3 home ties and if its Argentina in the final that will be at home too, a hostile crowd on Argentina clay would be a total game changer as opposed to having the crowd and conditions in their favour. The crowd can really make a difference on clay or in a James Ward v Delbonis situation. GB (or Scotland) are in a terrific position.

Having great strength in depth isn't crucial in Davis Cup, its format actually lends itself to top heavy teams.

Belgium will be at home to the Argies so good chance it will be Belgium in the final, Darcis has to beat Ward and Belgium would need an upset in the doubles to have a chance. Only advantage would be home Belgium crowd and maybe clay to negate Ward.

Also, despite his showing against the gold medal swiss team Gasquet is a fantastic doubles player. Tsonga can get a little sloppy in doubles, it's not just about power.

No indeed. A dead animal would make much more sense!
And how would you know that? What are you, some kind of animal medium, a "Dr Dolittle" for dead animals? Is that your day job, communicating with people's dead pets and/or other dead animals? I legitimately want to know. Lol.

Something I dislike is his lack of honesty and clarity in his communication. He couldn't say that Tsonga was injured vs. Switzerland but it ended being very obvious. And just like this WE where he couldn't say that Gasquet was injured. Tsonga's nomination pointed in that direction; in which case Gasquet should have forfeited to allow Mahut to play with his regular partner, Herbert. But then he sends Gasquet warming up for a hypothetical 5th match? Why? It makes no sense.

Exactly right. He tries to be a bit mysterious but he ends up screwing up the line-up.
I'm going to assume gasquet's ankle was well enough for doubles but who knows --he did warm up as you said.

With a deep team like France has you don't have to play any silly games, esp. vs. GBR.

any news on where our sf with aussie will be ?..I'd like Wimbledon but some chatter is for indoor hardcourt.

andys best surface is grass. but we can win on hc too.

I think GB actually stand a good chance this year to win the whole thing. Wimbledon grass would be ideal, don't see Murray losing to anyone there, but a shanhgai style HC also suits Murray a lot.

Not yet. Talk of an indoor hardcourt venue in Scotland was mentioned. But nothing decided yet.

I actually think clay would make the Aussies the most uncomfortable, and give Wardy a shot at the upset (he beat Querrey on clay in 2014).
None of the Aussies are particularly good on it. Murray will win 2 rubbers for sure regardless of surface.

Really disappointed for France but happy it is Great Britain who beat them. I hope now GB wins the whole thing, but main problem is they will have to win the doubles everytime, unless Ward manages to win a singles match but its not gonna be easy.

So, now that Dunblane beat the Frenchies the town team can move on to Australia. Do you think Dunblane should let the Aussies play Kiwi guys too - just to even things up a bit?

I will laugh me a ss off if the ageing Hewitt beats murray and co.

Only if they have a Dunblane connection!

By the way Andy already saying he would be very happy to play in Glasgow (obviously), any surface which is not grass would be a fine choice for Great Britain.
