wonder whether the pic of massu looking like the 2nd coming is at all distracting to koubek when he's serving on that side? :D

anyway theyre now on serve 3 all

===='
question: do these guys ever come to net? :confused:

===

what do ya know? koubek came to net twice and won both points. 5-4

this baseline match is taking too long. it's already 2 hours 22 minutes and second set isnt even over yet . . .

Oh no, Koubek takes the second, this is going to be a long night. Why are the games taking so long? It's 11:20 PM and I have classes tomorrow.

^^^ It's gotta be because theyre both camping out on the baseline???

anyway, as you said, it's now 1 set all, 2-1/2 hrs. . .

maybe some of it is because the umpire is constantly telling the crowd: silencio por favor because theyre only quiet when koubek wins a point, but sometimes theyre noisy even then if they suspect the point should have gone to massu.

one thing: massu did have a medical time out somewhere in there (leg massage), so I don't know whether he's still 100% or not . . .

third set goes to chile.

fourth set is the first time massu hasnt had an early break. instead, this time koubek has the early break.

another reason for the extended time of the match, just one additional point, is that massu seems to take a lot of time in between his serves, more than koubek does.

2 match points for Chile on Massu's serve and one on Koubek's. Saved.

Couldn't save the fourth, though - game, set, match, tie, for Chile.

Let's hope Gonzalez comes back. Then Chile might give a real scare to any team they play. As it is, with Massu/Capdeville, there's a lot more teams in the world group they really can't contend with.

when was the last time Lapentti, DIDN'T play a 5 set match?!?! The guy is an absolute soldier, it seems that every time he plays best of 5 he wants to make sure he gets his court time!
yeah, he's amazing !
i'd like to see his place in the "most of 5 sets maches played" list... ;)

Kontinen def Kalias 6-0 7-5 6-0 :(

poor Markos...
yep i saw that, unfortunately... brutal score. :(

this year in davis cup, marcos is 6-0 in single, and 2-1 in double... but this lone double loss was enough for ruining his hopes of making it to the group I. :?

i hope he doesn't get too disappointed, and at least gets some confidence for his single wins, following the challenger title... allez !!!

hehehe

From VoodeMar MTF:
Nico has joined to extremely elite club: Ivan Lendl (36), Pete Sampras (33), and Boris Becker (32) as a 4th player in the Open Era who won at least 30 five-setters

Amazing!!!
cool stat, thx !!! :D

.....Chilean team celebrates in the cold.....

"The never-ending match

. . . The fact that the match ended at 2:00am, with a temperature near to 7ºC, took a toll on the attendants, who only wanted their icon to win as fast as possible . . ."

massu made it happen by sheer determination of his will (plus 62 unforced errors by koubek ;))!
