Davydenko's 2009 new racquet?

At the Capitala World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi, Davydenko is using a racquet without the Prince stencil. Anyone knows what it is?

very inresting...18*20 string pattern, circular hoop, thin box beam....without holes...regular grommet white...

There's been rumors that he's been unhappy with his Prince, despite singing its accolades when he beat Nadal last year.

i remember he loved it when he swiched to a racquet with a denser string pattern because he had more control

This would be a desaster for Prince if they lose him, the only person in the top 10 that uses their racquets.

i dont think it would. as good as a player he is he is the most boring and has no on court character. i would be surprised if players purchased a price frame on him using it. the bryan brothers, maria and co all have something about them that influences racket sales.

Great point there. My thoughts exactly.

^^ He is a boring player yes, but i believe the rank of that player influences individuals even more. Prince have signed Monfils, thats not going to help because no one talks about him, and no one talks about him as much as davydenko because hes not in the top 10.

I got a feeling that he will be singing for Wilson, i feel this due to the fact djokovic is now with Head and therefore need someone decent enough to replace him. So davydenko would be a good choice IMO.

Actually, I know something about the Diablo. My dad and I went to a country club in Florida over the break to play tennis. The Country Club was sponsored by Prince. By that I mean that all the products they sold were Prince, all the Demo racquets were Prince, and on the check-in wall, they had all the classic Prince racquets on display. Along with the POG, Prince O3 White, etc., I saw a Speedport racquet with Red inserts. It was black and red. Based on the angle I was looking at it, I couldn't make out the name. My dad didn't want me to take a picture because of "etiquette". Is this racquet the Speedport Diablo?

i know but there is a difference in talking about a player becasue of there position in the rankings and general respect of being a top tennis player and then talking about players that are marketable. monfills is not the best example to compare with as he is inconsistant and not the most marketbale if we go by the history with nike and prince. he messes nike around and wares seasons old gear even though he will be provided with new stuff every month and with head he used to change his pj late.

i dont believe monfills will sell many rackets for prince. players like roddick, nadal, federer, tsogna, djokovic, murray, ferrer etc are all the best players but have on and of court character that will boost sales to the market of players that are influenced by this.

also, with davydenko his clothing deals show that he is not a marketable player. not many players that have reached number 4 in the world have has such a port sponsor and even before then he tried a pit of prince clothing and before that when he got the the french open semi finals he used a nike hat and other non branded clothing.

+1 for Head racquet
the grip shape looks like head + white grommets like the ones Emilio Sanchez used to have at the Davis Cup final as a trainer...
Maybe i am wrong...let's see.

I agree with you there, very similar to andy murray and of course monfils.

It is a Head racket, as it is the same racket Sanchhez was using...and that racket had a Head stencil on it.

The beam looks quite thin.

From this angle it looks very much like a PT630...but the head shape does seem to be a bit more round similar to a Prince stick.

Anyone have a picture of a PT630 from a similar angle?

The new prestige's were released less than a year ago...so I would not think that HEAD would release an update so soon, unless this is some new version of the prestige sans CAP grommets.

Therefore, this could possibly be a new racket coming out soon that will be a possible next revamping of the PT280/630 racket line...which would be absolutely wicked, I would buy them on the spot.

I would argue that this is the case as the prototype has a unique white grommet strip, for what reason I don't know, so I assume that it is an upcoming technology/new racket, as if it were not, what would stop head from giving Davydenko a PJ of the microgel prestige?

Also, does anyone want to hazard a guess at the head size? It looks like it is in the mid plus range (95-98ish)

looks very cool.
I like the look.
WHEN WILL IT COME OUT????

The real question right now is "if" it will come out, as no one knows whether this is a new racket, or a racket specially prepared for Davydenko that they will later paint to match one of their current sticks.

Because the beam looks quite thin, and because this racket has a unique grommet strip I am predicting that this may be a new racket that will be coming out in the future.

I say this because the beam on this racket is constant, and thinner than the upcoming extreme Pro. Furthermore, this racket is an 18x20, whereas the upcoming extreme pro is an 18x19. They could have drilled another hole for Davydenko, but the extreme is so far away from what Davy has used previously that I doubt it is the same racket.

Here is a pic of the upcoming extreme pro with a similar grommet strip...apparently it is Teflon.

wow thats very interesting to see him considering changing brands of racket. he expressed many positive opinions about his o3 sticks and how they improved his play dramatically. guess hes just looking for that little extra edge for 09. and remember a "small" edge on the pro tour is a huge edge for the player. similar to the uproar of the luxilon string when it first came into the scene and revolutionized the game.

they don't change the formula much...to my delight! should I return the CAP's I ordered and wait for teflon???

from someone who hasn't touched a Prince since the old POGs

... does look like an 'honest' player's racket with no gimmicks (O-ports, refilled O-ports, whatever else Prince has put in their recent models). Some of us might actually try it out then (regardless of any association with Davy).

It's not a Prince.

Did you not read any of the recent posts in this thread? It is highly unlikely that the racket Davydenko is using is a Prince.

It most likely a HEAD racket, in line with what Emilio Sanchez was playing with in the above pictures, and possibly similar to the new HEAD racket Djokovic is wielding in Australia.

Yes, I did read the posts, and saw the Head stencil in Sanchez's racket.

The points I was trying to make were that - even if it still were a Prince (after all, even if we all doubt it) - it's a Prince racket I would consider since it has no O-port gimmicks; and, second, that I would consider it regardless of / despite the fact that it was "Davy's new racket". I don't care who plays with it, if the weight, swingweight, flex and balance suit my game then I might try it sometime - and I will admit it looks rather good in blacked-out form.

So you think Davy is still using a prince racket, eh.. Hmm. I like Chauvulito's arguement a bit better, but I am still curious to know the answer. I guess only time will tell.

I understand now, and I agree with you. Regardless of whether it is a HEAD or a Prince, or who is using it, I will likely give it a try just because it is likely near my target spec...18x20, 11.5 ounces or greater, thin beamed etc.

According to hdtennis, Davydenko is still using the Ozone Pro Tour at 2009 BNP Paribas Open.

http://www.hdtennis.com/grs/pro_racquet_specs.html

Heres the specs of his Prince Ozone Pro Tour MP
346 33.2 352 28-1/8 inches

Note the length, since when did he switch to 28inches? I'm pretty sure he was using 27.5inch even last year.

Yeah Davydenko did switched back to his Prince racquet at BNP Paribas Open.

+1 on that! i couldn't believe how skinny the top of that hoop looked. i'd say its not much bigger than a conventional width frame (@ 19 mm).
