what are s,c?
"s" stands for "seeded country"

From www.daviscup.com:
Nations seeded according to ITF Davis Cup Nations Ranking: 1. Russia, 2. Argentina, 3. Croatia, 4. Spain, 5. Australia, 6. USA, 7. France, 8. Belarus

Unseeded nations: Austria, Belgium, Chile, Czech Republic, Germany, Romania, Sweden, Switzerland

The "c" signals the choice of surface. (the country that gets to pick it).

Interesting, Federer vs Nadal in Davis Cup if none of them withdraw. Playing in Switzerland it should be on carpet.

would be huge, but not sure that'll happen. Roger is reluctant to play a DC because of the efforts it requires, so imagine the kind of additonnal effort it would require to play Rafa... now he could take it as a challenge and an opportunity to improve the H2H...

Spain vs Switzerland.. Wow... Which one gonna be the host?

It´s in Switzerland. Fed. doesn´t play Davis Cup sometimes but playing against Nadal can be an extra motivation especially in front of his crowd and probably on carpet, he has everything to win this.

Muahaha! Sweden must be favourites against Belarus - even if they have the home advantage (Belarus is mainly a one-man team now - Jonas Björkmans partner Max Mirnyi).

So if we win that one then it'll be payback time against Argentina (most likely). And this time we'll meet them in Sweden and this time it *won't* be on clay :)

Hmmm... I was looking at the list of teams and wondered, which would not choose clay vs. USA if they had the choice? Australia, maybe Sweden?

dang y does usa not get choice of ground... itsaalready gona be hard from the get go.... if they win, theyd play the winner of federer vs nadal...sweeet and theyd get choice of court, so if its nadal and spain then a fast court would do it, if its federer and the swiss... uh oh lol, just choose the best court, and hope u can win the other 2 singles and the doubles.

Croatia and Germany probably wouldn't pick clay either, doubt that Switzerland would need to if Fed played.

Yup.We wouldn't pick clay even if we played against Burkina Fasso.

I wonder what Germans will pick against us.

The USA doesn't get choice of ground vs. the Czech Republic b/c the USA hosted them the last time the 2 nations faced each other: 2000 Great Western Forum, Inglewood, CA, a 3-2 W for the USA.

I believe P-Mac, the team & the rest of the US tennis delegation is preparing for clay, @ least that's what many tennis news sites are reporting.

I'm pretty sure it will be clay - like 90% - it's by far Croatia's worst surface and the only option for Germany if they want to win. Even if the chance is slim.

How do they determine who has the pick of surface...is it just luck of the draw?

If two countries have not met before, it is decided by lot.

If they have played before, the host country will be the one who was visitor on their last match. For example, next time USA meets Russia it will be at the USA.

you chose it 2 times in your davis cup history ! ;)
(against australia in 1996 and norway in 1994)
http://www.daviscup.com/teams/teamwinloss.asp?team=CRO
in that time, goran was still enjoying clay - he is the only player to have defeated muster in davis cup on clay :D (in 5 sets in 1997, i wish i saw that match !!!) - even if he didn't play really good in those 1994 and 1996 ties. :(

Are Kiefer and Haas really that good on clay? Remember, Ancic beat Robredo on clay this year. And I wouldn't exactly put your guys in the same category as Tommy on clay.

Remember what happened to Aussies when they put grass when playing against Argies. I think it's better to choose what favours your players, not what you think will be bad for your opponents.

Ancic made a nice run on clay this year.
Ivan got to SF at RG.
Even Ivo had a nice couple of good wins on clay.

I don't see Germany pulling it through, if it's on clay.
Medium-slow Hardcourts are the best way to beat Croatia.
Clay, it's down to Croatia
Grass, vs Ancic and Karlovic? No chance
Carpet: Ljubicic and Ancic will make a fest.
Hardcourts, depending on the speed of the courts, but Haas, Waske, Kiefer and Becker have a nice team, to rivalize the Hrvatis.

It will be a nice tie ;)

My wish for the player list of France

What do you think? ;)

My announcement: I respect every players have a right for lost any match, but this is the one of disciplinary for every team.

Well, Haas is crap on clay no question, Kiefer doesn't like it either, but I don't think there are other options left except grass (in Halle) - HC would clearly favor Croatia.
Still - it comes down weather they're more comfortable with grass or clay and I think it's clay atm. They played great on clay during WTC and their last DC (except Haas) on clay, at the same location nonethelesss and bad during their DC-tie against France on grass.
It just happens that our 2 best players don't like clay, but doesn't win on grass as well. It's a tough choice, but against Ancic on grass.....If I were the DC-captain I would choose clay.
I'm glad I'm not, though. ;)
