Is this a jinx thread? I do think there is a place for de Minaur in the pantheon of next generation players to win slams, but this OP reeks of jinx. Are you scared he might counterpunch his way to the U.S. Open? Here's to hoping de Minaur can do it. Other than his odd fashion choices including haircuts and mustache, I enjoy watching him play.

No way. he plays way to defensive to win the US Open. I feel like his shots lack power, to hit through players like Thiem. Not a good matchup for him! I'm personally not a fan of players who can only counterpunch/retrieve, prefer those who have a good balance of both, some variety and can 'turn defense into offense'. The demon is not one of those players. He's yet to show me anything impressive, solid win of Khachanov, but his ball bashing was a good matchup for Alex tbh. Thiem bashes as well, but is more accomplished overall.

I hope Thiem or Zverev takes it but honestly all bets are off for me at this stage.
