Hmmm. Looks like Raonic will take his seeded spot.

Also, Dusan Lajovic moves up into the 17th-24th seeded group

He had an abdominal issue at the AO 2 years ago from memory. Needs to take up drinking to strengthen his stomach.

"Sorry to all my fans who wanted to see me at the AO but I spent so much energy at the ATP Cup and that I need to rest before Indian Wells"
Alex De Minaur at his press conference:
¤¤ “I gradually felt my first bit of pain during my Shapovalov match [at the ATP Cup]. After that took four days off, then played Evans in a very long match. Played the doubles, then a day off, then I played Rafa. During that I could feel something there. I didn’t think it was that bad.
“Then flew to Adelaide, got a scan, and the scan revealed that I had the tear, which is a quite significant one compared to other ones I’ve had in the past.
“Now it’s about recovering.”

It marks the second time in three years than an abdominal issue has affected the Australian rising star in the lead-up to the Australian Open.
In 2018, after reaching the semifinals in Brisbane and the final in Sydney, De Minaur arrived at Melbourne Park and fell 6-3 3-6 6-0 6-1 to Tomas Berdych, hampered by the injury on his serve.

“It’s a new tear in the same area (as old problems). It’s a little bit bigger,” De Minaur explained.
“The risks of me potentially playing … was that it could obviously get worse, get to sort of a Grade 3 tear, which involves stitches, and that means probably a problem for the rest of your career. ¤¤

Didn’t Rafas one recover in less than a week last time. Maybe a premature decision given that he may not play till Tuesday or so...
Tears like Demon's are different. You can play through a strain or pull, but if you play through a tear you could risk hernia which would require surgery and a much longer recovery time.

... Which he continued to play in. Is miracle, no?
In 2009, Rafa did the same what Alex De Minaur did this year: played through pain (in the abdominal muscle) and aggravated the injury. Rafa sustained an abdominal muscle injury in Cincinnati and aggravated it at the US Open.

At the 2019 Paris Masters, Rafa made a wiser choice: he withdrew from the tournament before aggravating the injury.
An excerpt from Rafa's press conference after his withdrawal from the 2019 Paris Masters due to an abdominal injury:
¤¤ Question. As you said, it's not the first time you get this kind of injury. Did you feel it coming at some point? It's the same nature of injury as the last one?
RAFAEL NADAL: I had this issue in the US Open 2009 with a bad experience. Because I started the tournament with, if I remember, around 6, 7, millimeters of strain and I keep playing, I keep playing.
And that was the year that I lost the semifinals against Del Potro. So I finished the tournament with 28-millimeter strain, so have been a big, big thing after that. I remember well because I couldn't play semifinals of Davis Cup.
....I don't want to repeat that.¤¤

Continues to exacerbate existing injuries and then withdraw from multiple successive tournaments for the next decade.

I wonder why Rafa haters are constantly creating imaginary stories about Rafa.
First, I am not a Rafa hater. So, you are imagining
Second, when in his 15 years has he skipped the clay season, Donald?? Or, even better, what is the proportion of skipped parts of season compared to clay part. Calling someone names and repeating same irrelevant crap, Donald, does not make your argument “perfect” (let me conveniently use that word.
Therefore, there must be something special about his clay pre-season training regiment

You’d think with this being his home slam he would put his body on the line. There’s a huge break after the Aussie. You got to question his toughness on this one.

Should've just not said he was injured but instead he was boycotting the Australian Open over the forest fires.

This kid needs to add some power strokes to his game if he wants to have a better career than Ferrer.

Like a mosquito he annoys the other players for some time until someone simply blows him off the court.

Overtraining???
Over training but also hes vey slender. Listed at 152lbs and 6 foot. I always found the thinner frame guys to get injured with a lot higher frequency. Ie. Nishikori

mdvdv is six inches taller but only 30 pounds heavier, yet stays relatively much more healthy while playing the same side-to-side defense.

I mean its not a law of the sport just a trend I notice. And i was more referencing more average height or smaller guys. Besides, has any other player in history Medvedevs size played his style and lasted more than a few seasons? So i wouldnt use him as a counter example just yet.
