Dead poly strings

I just got my racquet restrung with poly, trying it for the first time and I hear from people that poly goes dead real fast. Ive never played with dead poly, and i was wondering just how bad it is.

To be honest, I barely notice it, if I notice it at all. I have played with a poly hybrid set-up for over a year and have gone through many string jobs, and I have never cut my strings because the poly went "dead". I have used Wilson Enduro Pro and Tour, Prince POLY EXP, and Topspin Cyber Blue. I have also heard that Technifibre Pro Red Code is a great poly as well.

You'll know when it's dead, so don't worry about it.

Exactly. The balls will be going long, you might see some slight movement in the strings, and the consistency will be gone. Poly will often be playable for awhile after it's started to go. I play with CyberFlash some and I'll know after about 10 hours that it's gone, but I'll still warmup with it, or hit the ball machine/wall for another 5-10 hours. I'm retired, so I must do what I can to preserve money.
