Del Potro is Nadal's Biggest Threat at RG

Agassi and Sampras hit flat and take the ball early. Thus a very quick match and we know who wins those battles between Sampras and Agassi. Sampras always does due to Agassi's style hitting to Sampras's wheelhouse. Nadal would be the perfect player to hurt Sampras's rhythm and attack his backhand. Btw I never said the courts weren't lower bouncing in the 90's They used a softer grass which caused the ball to die quicker. Thus the perception that the court is faster. The break percentage shows that the horizontal speed did not change much. Actually there are less breaks now.

If you had the chance to give Nadal some, would you? Because honestly, the amount of sucking up you do to him, geez.

ITF measures the US Open and the Australian Open Courts faster than Wimbledon on their scale. I'd say they are more accurate than a tennis arm chair critic that doesn't even play tennis at all.

What's next,Del Potro for the GOAT threads? He's a very good player on a hot streak at the moment and has potential to be a great player in the future but he's not there yet.

Nadal's biggest threat on clay next year are Djokovic,Nalbandian(if healthy and motivated) and Fed but that ain't saying much since their chances are very small as well(especially at beating Nadal at the FO,were he has never even been pushed to five sets yet).
Nalbandian? Lmao. Yet you dare to criticize people saying Del Potro is a threat.

Read the second portion of my sentence, the ITF measures both the US Open and the Australian Open faster than Wimbledon. The ITF is independent and usually is a PRETTY GOOD SOURCE OF INFORMATION ABOUT TENNIS.

Are you going to say the ITF makes stuff up again?

Yeah possibly. Especially the way they were trying to promote the new Aussie Open surface. I do think they could be making up. I wish I knew how the ITF measures the courts.

what would they have to promote? how is the promotion of the USO and the AO going to help them?

and by the way, mcenroe and even roddick have clearly stated that wimbledon is not as fast.

Hilarious, you said the Australian Open surface was fast, then it was slow, now the ITF makes stuff up to promote the new Australian Open Surface. You make Sarah Palin look like a champ at debating. It's very apparent you are extremely inept at arguing facts. We can throw your "facts" of break percentages out of the water due to selection bias. However, the ITF is not biased against anyone. They don't just make up stuff; that would be illegal and could end up having a lawsuit against them.

The ITF knows how to measure surfaces. Much better then you. Probably, infinitely better then you. Honestly. You are so blatantly biased and trolling so hard it's not even funny (if not, you're just stupid). Basically your whole entire argument sums up to this :

"Waaaagh, I can't hold up my argument of surface speeds because I suck at arguing worse than Sarah Palin, so I'll just use some slander and say the ITF makes up stuff!"

Didn't you know? It's a myth that professional players know more about surfaces than the "well informed" tennis fan.

I'll go with actual stats and what I see over something the ITF supposedly did but not explain it well.

Statistics that you bent to your own view. You never explained how you come up with this "break percentage" very clearly, and you could have easily manipulated numbers to put them in your favor.

Again, your argument again is :

"I'll hold onto my own belief even though NamRanger just blew up my arguments. My biased statistics are far superior than the Governing Body of Tennis itself."

I did not manipulate the breaking percentages. I did it all just for curiosity. It turned that Wimbledon was way faster than the other slams. What ITF does behind close doors can be manipulative. No one can argue against something they can't test.

How do any of us know that you didn't manipulate anything? Who here is really going to take time out of their day just to prove an internet loser like you wrong? You have clearly shown that you are biased towards Nadal, not only by your name, but by how you formulate your arguments. You dismiss anything that disagrees with you as "biased, ridiculous, stupid," yet we can't dismiss your little statistical shenanigans (which I'm willing to bet you made up) that you conjured up a week after everyone was complaining about how grass was so slow now? Whatever.

Anyways back on topic : Del Potro = no no. The biggest threat to Nadal is still Federer (despite what anyone says).

The problem with your argument is you don't count potential as a factor. Potro is 7 years younger than Federer. Fed is on the decline while Potro is improving quickly. To call it just a hot streak is ridiculous. 20 and more matches of winning plus showing his best performance lately in Davis Cup on Clay really leads me to believe he will be a bigger threat. Also he is tall and well suited to handle high balls. Everything leads to him having a breakout slam at next years French Open and challenging Nadal more than probably anyone else except maybe Djokovic who is also improving.

He got trounced by Berdych, who is a step below Federer. Del Potro does not have the movement nor the variety of angles to be able to beat Nadal on clay. To beat Nadal on clay, you have to be able to out angle him. There's no one else out there except Federer and Nalbandian who can do that.

Del Potro gave Nadal a tough match 2 years ago at the French Open. He is a better version of Sam Querrey. Indoors and Grass are probably where he struggles the most. His game is suited to Clay. I don't get why people think he is better on hardcourts though it is his second best surface. He likes to have extra trime on his shots. Btw Berdych is a very good indoor player.

Test Wimbledon 2008 vs. US OPen 2008 or AO 2008. You'll see that in breaking percentage, Ace count, and First Serve Points Won are all clearly showing that Wimbledon is faster.
Wimbledon 2008 http://www.atptennis.com/3/en/vault/draws.asp?TournamentID=540&TournamentYear=2008
Australian Open 2008 http://www.atptennis.com/3/en/vault/draws.asp?TournamentID=580&TournamentYear=2008
US Open 2008 http://www.atptennis.com/3/en/vault/draws.asp?TournamentID=560&TournamentYear=2008

You make it sound like Del potro and Djokovic are obviously better clay court players than Federer, which they aren't. Federer doesn't have problems with Rome or Roland Garros, just with Nadal on them.
Exactly. Some people apparently need a reminder that Fed has made three consecutive finals at RG and would have three RGs(05,06,07 not 08) had he not had the misfortune of playing the greatest dirtballer ever.

u made (up) all those stats? COUNTED EVERY MATCH WITH OFFICIAL ATP STATS? MADE AVERAGE NUMBER OF ACES PER MATCH?
you need at least 5-6 hours to do it for a slam tournament
and if u have time to make 20 such stats (which u showed) then i have to congratulate you

Goes to show that you really don't watch tennis that much. Berdych beat Del Potro into the ground outdoors at Japan.

It doesn't matter, Del Potro does not have the angles to beat Nadal. You cannot hit through Nadal on clay, and that is Del Potro's game. That's why he got beatdown by Berdych, who hits even bigger than Del Potro off both sides. You have to be able to control the center and hit wide angles to move Nadal off the court, while also having the ability to take the backhand down the line at will. If you have these combinations (Nalbandian is a good example) then you take away Nadal's best weapon, his forehand crosscourt.

Which is why some of us don't believe him. You would have to sit down and literally count every single match, which would take at least 6-8 hours per tournament. With the amount of tournaments he's spewing out (and the amount of bull that comes out of his mouth), it's quite obvious that your average every day citizen wouldn't have time to do something. I think he did the US Open back in the day in one night, which I highly doubt for some reason.

I did only break percentages. Later I added the other 2 stats but only from the 3rd Round-Final. It clearly showed that Wimbledon was faster.

Doing the first two rounds itself would be alot of time still. There's no way you did an entire slam's first two rounds (which has a ton of players) in the span of one night, unless you didn't sleep (which I highly doubt).

His stats always change depending how they favor Nadal most at that moment. He gets stuck at times contradicting himself and then pretends it to be something in between the two then. This is my vision of him:

Or he just says that the ITF is lying.

Yeah like he would know better then the ITF would, LOL! The IFT are missing the boat, they dont know squat, they are only trained professionals who have most played tennis at a high level themselves, studied and researched the game for years, get first hand access to surfaces and tournaments and even create some of them, yet they should hire the all knowing genius on tennis Nadal_Freak to run the show instead.

Del Potro is a big threat. I created a similar thread after this user but pointed out the same thing. And I think today's whooping will actually help him. I dont think he has played Nadal or Federer (THE TOP 2) before in a Slam. So now he has some experience of playing the best in a Slam. It should make him more relaxed in the 2nd week at the French. My opinion...

i think delpo's lack of effort in that match will prove to be a major setback for him. he made it all the way to the QFs only to give up after one set. i know fed was playing good, but a top ten player should never get double-bagled in any match. until he proves different, delpo cannot be considered a threat in a slam, maybe not even a threat to make it to the second week.

I didnt watch the match, but the scoreline is ridiculous. Interesting to see if he bounces back from this or not. And no, I dont think he'll make the best push on clay.

Uh, he has played both of the top two in Slams before. Federer at Wimbledon and Nadal at RG in 2007. I thought he had two of the worst draws ever that year.

My apologies...wasn't too sure but anyways I still think the beating will help him in the long run. He might not be a BIG THREAT but he is good darkhorse pick at the French.

Everyone should know by now Nadal_Freak knows zeelch about the game, hes nothing more than a fan boy that acts upon one off results, very mediocre.

Federer proved today how one dimensional Del Potro is.

Yes it was a wild prediction. I based on Del Potro's rapid improvement and his height. But yeah Djokovic is by far Nadal's toughest player on clay.

Djokovic is a MUCH bigger threat than del Potro on clay.

He played amazingly well against Nadal today.

Edit: Hey, that rhymes!
