Wow he managed to do something that's only been done.....21 times before

Ha.

Maybe a better stat would be the greatest SF span at a particular slam in the Open Era (in years):

17 - Connors, US Open (1974-1991)
15 - McEnroe, Wimbledon (1977-1992) - love this one as he was *so far* past his prime when he last reached the semis there
15 - Agassi, US Open (1990-2005)
14 - Federer, Australian Open (2004-2018)
13 - Connors, Wimbledon (1974-1987)
13 - Nadal, French Open (2005-2018)

Of course, all these pale by comparison to Rosewall's records - he has, I believe, the longest SF span at all four slams, if we consider both pre- and post-Open Era;

24 yrs at Australian Open (1953-1977)
21 yrs at US Open (1953-1974)
20 yrs at Wimbledon (1954-1974)
16 yrs at French Open (1953-1969)

not many folk seemed to notice (or didn't care lol)..but jmdp/cilic match was a shoot-out for the world no 4 rank.

so congrats to the tower of tandil for equalling his career high rank for 3rd time, (also in 2010 and 2014). :)

maybe another one for the op ?..1st player to reach career high rank 3 times at equidistant intervals 8yrs apart in total.

If he wins a slam it will be 9 years after his first time. The actual record must be something like 3 years (and 4.5 between any two slams).

Would be weird. Greatest comeback in history.

Agassi only guy on all 4 lists

French Open
Agassi - 1990 and 1999

US Open
Agassi - 1990 and 2005

Couple of corrections -

At French, he's 1988-1999 for 11 years
At USO, he's 1988-2005 for 17 years

Thus placing him as joint leader in span at a particular Slam with Connors USO

Maybe a better stat would be the greatest SF span at a particular slam in the Open Era...

17 - Connors, US Open (1974-1991)
15 - McEnroe, Wimbledon (1977-1992)
15 - Agassi, US Open (1990-2005)
14 - Federer, Australian Open (2004-2018)
13 - Connors, Wimbledon (1974-1987)
13 - Nadal, French Open (2005-2018)

Federer can cross at Wimby 2021, Aus or US 2022

Nadal at French 2023

Doesn't seem likely but wouldn't rule anything out with these guys
