Delpo may play in the US Open

I hope he come back and Nadal can play him two times, including in the USO.

It would be the total reverse of last year when Del Potro took advantage of Nadal coming back from a big injury.

Tendinitis =/ wrist surgery. I'm happy to see the big guy on the way back, but let's not trivialize this as if it's some minor injury that he should get over quickly.

The guy's coming back from a serious injury, and all you care about is Nadal getting his "revenge"?

I do hope he comes back because then if rafa wins US, noone can say he didn't deserve it! Although the haters can always bring up the fact that delpo is injured, blahblahblah. It looks like he's saying he'll be back after the open though.

yay! wonderful news, although it doesn't exactly say he will be able to play for USO, it says he hopes he can come back even soon than a possible return for the davis cup tie against france.

i don't blame the kid wanting a chance to defend his first major, but i agree, he shouldn't rush into things. would def like to see him there, i cheered for him live at the final last year and wanted to see him again in 2010. also, would really really like him to play in the tie against france. shouldn't reaggrevate an injury he was out all year for, though. monaco should also be back in time, so argentina may not be in dire need of delpo.

best of luck to enano!!

Jeez does every piece of news have to relate in some way to Nadal for you Rafaheads?

So you want del Potro to return and play when he isn't ready to do so?

Neat.

I think you're being a little harsh on Leor. He/She probably means that Delpotro will be a little rusty coming back from injury like Nadal was and will hence not be performing at his best.

Except Nadal missed only two tournaments. Del Potro has missed over 6 months and has gotten surgery during that time period.

I seriously doubt he's any threat to win the 2010 US Open after a 7+ month layoff. If he plays, he'll be rushing back and will probably make a ton of unforced errors early on. Good to have him back, but let's not expect a miracle his first 1 or 2 events back.

Here's a weird stat. On each guys current 12 month ranking, Nadal has 18 tournaments played and Del Potro 16. So Del Po has missed 6 months and still almost played as many events as Nadal in the last year. Really shows how much Rafa has lightened his workload. Either that, or Del Potro's workload was insanely high before he broke down. Probably a combination of both.

You'd certainly get the impression from the media and what not that Nadal has really lightened his workload. But he's only skipped Barcelona. That's it. So then there's only the two grasscourt tournies missed because of injury.

He skipped playing in Febuary also. So he lost the Rotterdam points he won by playing Murray in the 2009 Final. Rafa has only missed 2 events he planned to play this year(Rotterdam and Barcelona). Unless you add Davis Cup.

I don't think that's possible unless they're keeping the tournaments that will count towards his protected ranking on there, since DelPo only played the Aussie Open this year - and only 6-7 tournaments after Wimbledon last year.

Ah yes I forgot about the Rotterdam one. Did he cite injury as the reason for his withdrawal?

I can't remember the reason he gave. But seeing as he quit in the 3rd set of his Australian match vs Murray, I'd guess it was to just keep resting a few extra weeks after that.

LOL! Well actually I'm just not much of a Delpo fan! So, sure it's great that he's coming back, but i will see it from my POV. If you don't want Rafa mentioned, then perhaps Fed can beat him and make up for last year =D OR perhaps Blake can beat him and surprise us all. :)

for all we know del potro could be getting ready for the Us open as we speak. Wouldn t surprise me if he made a deep run.

It would shut up the trolls who are saying "waaaa Del Potro owns Nadal" when he just has a very easy way and beat Nadal when every top 10 was beating him in straight sets easily following his injury.

You know it would not have happenned ortherwise. Getting the same thing in reverse is just.... justice?

He probably won't be able to a hit a forehand. I think he's rushing to defend his points and his title. Will probably ruin his wrist even more like in AO. Oh well, his mistake.

wow theres too many *********s on here. i hope del potro comes back. Hes an excellent player and will make tennis more entertaining especially when versing against Nadal, Djokovic, Federer etc.

i think he would be smart enough to know that it is best to sit out if he cant hit a forehand... what do you think this is? this is a professional level tournament not a tennis comp for 5 year olds.

And spider, face it Murray sucks towards the F,SF stages of a GS, if he even gets there that is. I mean Murray has been spanked by Fed and Nadal over and over but Del Potro has been able to do the spanking to the two (as shown in US open).

He played in AO didn't he? He admitted he was in pain the entire time. Why didn't he pull out? If he wasn't as smart then, what makes you think he's wiser now, especially when he has title defense on the line?

It takes a Federer and Nadal to stop Murray and they can't do that always. Federer is almost done now and Murray should start beating him shortly. Nadal is unbelieveable on clay and grass but Murray can dominate the hard court slam titles.

Fed and Nadal won't be there forever.

i remember him hitting forehands in the australian open. to tell you the truth i have never ever seen a tennis match where 1 person did not hit a forehand. Being in pain is different to not being able to hit a forehand.

and Spider you said 5 years. With professional treatment wrists dont stay broken for 5 years. heck wrists dont remain broken for 5 years with only normal treatment. Even in the healthiest condition Murray will still fail to win a slam.

No. People who have wrist injuries never regain their previous form. del Potro may not be able to mindlessly bash the ball as he used to. This was afterall his strategy -- hit as hard as possible. Wrist injuries are career threatening even if they heal within 6-8 months.
